Default Question: Should I bring wrapped Christmas gifts on plane?

I am not sure if I should wrap all the Christmas gifts that we are bringing to germany? After all they can what it is through the x-ray thingee right? It would save us some time to do it here and not there.

First you may be VERY limited on what you can carry on. A pile of gifts would not fit cuurent airline allowances. Second, if they decide they want to see contents , all your wrapping will be for naught.
Your best bet may be to ship them ahead of time to yourself in Germany (or to one of your relatives). Second best would be to take the unwrapped presents in a check in bag. Get rid of as much packaging and stuff as you can to reduce weight and bulk. Pack simple wrap (flat) as well an do your wrapping at the destination.
Best not to prewrap the packages andf try to carry them on in this day and age.

I could be wrong but I thought they say do not wrap for if you do they will unwrap them to get a closer look. When my son went to Germany last year he used all gifts bags so they could look in if need be. Higher value items were with him in the carry-on also in gift bags with no tissue yet.

Gift bags come in all sizes and will save a lot of time for you even if you pack them seperate.

Pack your wrapped gifts, to go in the belly of the plane or unwrapped and wrap them in Germany. It won't matter in X-ray, but don't wrap any carry ons. You will, after all, need the same suitcase to bring back all your gifts.

Just remember the weight limit, I think, is 70 lbs each, but i am sure you know this all ready.

i would wrap them and pack them very carefully in a suitcase.
Breakable,or valueable items i would take unwrapped in the carry-on.
Why don't you want to ship them in advance?

Thanks for the advise...I keep them unwrapped. I can not ship them now as it would cost me a fortune to send them air mail. We have 5 carry on bags which will be plenty for all the stuff we have bought. I do know of the weight restrictions.
Again, thanks for the great advise!

Default Question: Should I Bring Wrapped Gifts on the Plane?

I have heard repeatedly on the t.v. and radio that if you bring any wrapped gifts into the terminal, they will definitely be unwrapped by security personnel.

I have heard the exact same thing as Judy. Do not wrap Christmas presents ESPECIALLY on international flights.

Better safe than sorry. Do it when you get there.

Take care,
Mike

I guess I do it there.I did not wanted to "waste" my time doing it there but you are right better safe than sorry. Talked to my Dad today and he was just about to leave to visit the Christmas market, eat a Bratwurst and have a "Gluehwein" <a hot alcoholic tea> that tastes very nice. maybe I have one when I go there too

They will open all wrapped boxes. They will tell you up front that you are not to have wrapped gifts as they are subject to inspection.

It's best to ship them ahead and not deal with them on the plane or in the airports.

Thomas
