Default English can be so complex.....

In light of this morning's discussion on language and accents, I thought you all might enjoy this one.....

English can be so complex to understand sometimes

Read the paragraph below ....and try to understand the meaning.

Two individuals proceeded towards the apex of a natural geologic
protuberance, the purpose of their expedition being the procurement of
a sample of fluid hydride of oxygen in a large vessel, the exact size
of which was unspecified. One member of the team precipitously
descended, sustaining severe damage to the upper cranial portion of
his anatomical
structure; Subsequently the second member of the team performed a self
rotational translation oriented in the same direction taken by the
first team member.

scroll down to understand:.......(in simple English what does this
translate to??)

Thanks RollerDonna! My father is an odd bird, and likes to come up with these sorts of mind teasers. I can never understand them! I had to pass this along to him.

English can also be complex or simple in prose and poetry. Witness the same thought two different ways:

As the perserving echos of tumultious years
Eventually perish,
The passion swept remembrance of you
Remains undiminished
Chisled with carbon steel into the inner recesses
Of my being,
Maintaining itself, not in the verbal symbols that fade
With time,
But carved into my living heart in letters
Of fire.
Spelling out vanished hopes for unattainable
Love.
Fire that no elixir nor narcotic
Can sooth,
Ant that the passing of a hundred lifetimes
Cannot extinguish.

Wouldn't is be much simpler to say:

As memory fades,
The thought of you
Lingers in my heart.
Not in words,
But in the pain
Of lost love
That drugs cannot ease,
Nor time erase.

The first version is what journalists refer to as purple prose!
