We arrived in Ft. Lauderdale on Saturday, Dec. 10 and stayed at Extended Stay on 17th St. It was clean and adequate for one night, but they never informed us that contractors occupied many of their rooms for hurricane repairs in and around Ft. Lauderdale. We understood the need and accepted a room with a queen although we had booked a king. We walked over to the Marriot and took a water taxi to Los Olas shops. You can get on and off at various stops and the mansions and yachts were so beautiful and many were decorated for Christmas. This is well worth the $7 fare and I highly recommend it.
My fil lives in Ft. Lauderdale. We take the water taxi all the time when we visit. One of our favorite places is a restaurant called "Shooters". Good food, great view of the inner coastal and big boats.

Hi crusinforever and TBug. Yes I know that area very well. CFever, e actually stayed at the Riverside Hotel located right in Las Olas Boulevard last December after our cruise on the Victory. Beleive me the second week was far superior to the first and the Riverside Hotel is absolutely wonderful.
Las Olas area is very select and elegant and the Hotel blends in with the surrounds magnificantly.
TBug, yes I know Shooters too - we went there with friends for lunch and dinner and it is a great place with plenty of atmosphere...... and yes, the water taxis are a great idea and as you say, all those million dollar yachts and homes - it sure is another world.
CFever, I hope that the area was not too desimagted by this year's hurricanes as it was so beautiful this time last year.
Thanks for the memories...................
