End of year or Xmas Bonus???????

Just wondering have you received a bonus at the end of the year or called a Christmas bonus??

For myself I started working full time at 18 and had many employments through life and never received a bonus of any kind. The companies I worked for did not believe in an end of year bonus. Some of these companies are on the Fortune 500, what a bummer.... Cheapskates

Our so called bonus was a bbq from 2 pm this arvo.

Thats enough as far as management is concerned and no pay for it either???

I do get a bonus each year. But since I don't take any wages during the year, I don't know if it can really be called a bonus. My husband's work throughs a party. They deduct money from each pay check for a Christmas Party and a BBQ in the summer. This year they decided they needed more money and are charging everyone that goes and extra $5 on top of what they deduct each week. We will not be going, we don't go to the BBQ either, not since this new company overtook the old one.

Our daycare has had a difficult financial year, and there was talk of no bonuses this year, but I guess Santa must've stepped in, because we got a nice one anyway. Mine is going in my cruise saving fund!

I have been blessed to work for my company for 31 years and we have received a bonus each of those years.

Everyone at our company got 100 bucks in addition to a dinner cruise with a live band-pretty generous. But its the first place I've worked for in years that has done anything like this.

since we have our own business, I get the boss man for a bonus!

Thanks for reminding me Steve. Company I used to work for was great. We got a bonus every year and quite a nice one at that. Now that I'm retired, I think I'm gonna write myself a check and call it a bonus. LOL

LMAO Tweets.

I get a very nice bonus every year, in addition to smaller ones through the year. I work for a small law firm and my boss recognizes things can be frantic through the year and never forgets to let us know he appreciates all of our hard work.

I work for the state of Florida. Last year they gave us a bonus instead of a raise and of course taxes were taken out of it. I think we got a raise this year but the increase in health insurance sort of makes the raise go away.
When my husband was a buyer for the food (mostly meat) company he works for he seemed to get a lot of liquor and knives.

We give all our staff a Christmas Bonus, as well as throw a Christmas Party for them.

As to the size of the bonuses.. luckily for us there's an old adage that applies...... it's the thought that counts LOL

End of Year or Christmas Bonus???

I worked for an ad agency many years ago that used to give bonuses at the end of the year. Then nothing til I worked for the company where I met Keith. They gave everybody a turkey for Christmas. Large corporation, too, with plnety of highly paid company officers.

I'm the type that looks at it as if I receive anything above my paycheck as a pretty good deal. It's more than I had before.

We decided to give out Year End bonuses at my last company and some folks were furious because they were taxed on the bonus. I had five people yelling at me because of it. I politely told them I had no control over Uncle Sam and even with the W-2 withholdings it was more money than they had before and Happy Holidays. One person tried to make a point by placing the check back on my desk. It was a moot point because it was a direct deposit receipt.

I guess you can't win in some situations.

Take care,
Mike

It all depends on the spelling… Bone us? Yes they did. Bonus as in monetary? No they did not.
Glad I have a great job that I know will be here always…Priceless!

I used to work for a company that gave everyone one week pay at the Christmas party. That wasn't as much fun when I was on weekends during college time. Then it was only two days vs. a week.

They also gave turkeys at Thanksgiving and chocolate Easter bunnies from a very good choc shop. People stuck around for that employer.

Now I always get from my cleaning customers. Don't forget to take care of your cleaning ladies. :D

From the music program where I do Admin work, I got a bottle of Italian wine to get us in the mood for Italy in the summer. I still haven't commited to going.

Well to be honest getting the opportunity to work for my wonderful boss is bonus enough and she gives me a bonus anytime I ask for one... you guessed it, I'm self employed! Since d/h started working for the "family business" this past year I decided that his bonus will be a cruise on NCL's Spirit March 19. Luckily he is taking me along (smart career move lol!)

skymaster December 23rd, 2005 07:00 PM

I've been with my company 29 years, and my bonus is that I get to try for 30. I've never seen a bonus, and probably never will. :x

See you aboard,
Ken

My dh always gets a year end bonus, but this year all the bonuses were HALF what they were last year. When the big partner drove up in a new Jag, dh teased his license plate should read:

YourBonus

I get a yearly bonus, based on company profitability, so no, it's not really a Christmas bonus. It is, for tax reasons, payable up until March 15 of the following year, so I can usuaslly count on receiving it right around that date. It has been as little as $200 during the down times and VERY generous when times are good. I started with this company in 1979, left for a short while to move back to Flagstaff, and then returned, and have been there ever since, in August 1984.

We have, over the years, been given turkeys or gift certificate or gift cards as thank-yous at Thanksgiving or Christmas, once again, depending on company profitability, which I think is a nice gesture. When the company is doing well it is smart to share some of that with the people who are making it happen.
