Default Back from the Liberty.

What a great cruise. We had an aft balcony cabin (a first for us) and great neighbors who we hung out with and became friends of. They made the cruise a lot better since our original travelling companions baled out because of marital stress. We now have a new set of great friends in Manassas, Va. and plan on cruising with them again.

The ship was difficult to find your way around and the only way to walk around the ship from front to back outdoors was on the Lido deck and transversing some stairs.

The ship rocked a lot more than any other I've ever been on. The first day the cruise director claimed it was because there was a medical emergency on board so they didn't use the stabilizers to maximize their speed to get to San Juan as soon as possible. But the ship rocked every day after as well.

The food, activities, and itinerary were excellent. The buffet food was better than most, or maybe I was just fortunate to hit it when it was freshest. I especially like the covered pool and hot tub area on the rear deck because it rained several times on us and it was nice to sit at a bar and pool that was "indoors."

We're contemplating our next cruise now to minimize PCD.

Regards,
Thomas

Welcome back Thomas. We missed you around here. Glad to hear you had a great cruise and met some new cruising friends. Jake and I keep saying we are going to have to try out a room on the stern one of these days. It's good to hear that you enjoyed it so much. One question---Could that be why you felt the ship rocking so much or did you experience that no matter where you were on the ship?

Sounds like you had a good time, Thomas. I assume it was an Eastern Carib. itinerary. Did that "marital stress" take place before or during the cruise? It sounds like your friends never made it to the pier. Anyway, it's good that you found replacements for your stressed non-traveling companions.

I take it that the Liberty is a pretty large vessel, so I'm a bit surprised that you experienced so much ship instability during your cruise. Were the seas particularly rough, or do you think it might have been something else?

Welcome home to the real world!

Jack

Welcome home, Thomas. Thanks for the report on the Liberty. It's nice to hear what people think of this ship since we will sail on her in Jan. 07.

Welcome home Thomas, glad to hear you enjoyed the Liberty. Sounds like you suffered the same instability that we did on Triumph in Dec. Maybe it's just rocky seas this time of year?
Will you be posting pics in the gallery soon?

Thanks for the mini-review Thomas! I will be boarding the Liberty in less than 3 weeks and might have a question or two for you in the meantime!

Thank you also from me Thomas.
I watch the Liberty cam every day. Looked like you had a few sea days at the beginning of the cruise??

LISA When you get on board in 18 or so days can you get them to fix the web cams?!!
They are off-line at the mo.

I think Thomas may have had something to do with this failure? lol

Thomas, glad to hear that you had a great time on Liberty. We will be boarding the same time as Lisa......and also have an aft-facing cabin. Which one were you in?

From the sounds of things, I will be sure to pack the Meclizine (Bonine) just in case.

We were in cabin 8459. The cruise was 8 nights departing on Sat. and the first stop was San Juan on Mon. at 5:00 p.m. We set sail 1-1/2 hours late and soon after leaving word spread throughout that the ship was rocking because of a medical emergency and the captain was not using the stabilizers so he could maximize speed to get to San Juan early. However, we only arrived in San Juan 1-1/2 hours early anyway.

Throughout the cruise the ship rocked and we were in some not so rough seas. I have been in worse, with worse rocking, but in my opinion this ship is not as stable as others. However, we did skip our stop on the last day in Nassau because of the high winds. It was definitely rough the last day but with enough Michelobs it felt normal.

Tortola was the favorite stop. It was clean, non abusive, and we enjoyed an island tour and beach break. This was our first time in Tortola, and Antigua as well, and we thought Tortola was the nicest of all the islands we've been to.

For those travelling on the Liberty, I will let you know that you must go to deck 5 to get from one end of the ship to the other without changing decks.

Regards,
Thomas

Another soon to be Liberty cruiser here, thanking you for the mini-review!

How was your embarkation and disembarkation experience?

What shore excursions did you do?

Thanks!

Thomas, I was on the Liberty as well last week. What was up with that rocking? I beleive it has to be more then just rough seas, it was rocking in the calmest of seas. I would have understood the rocking on the last day and maybe the first two but it rocked even when we were in the warmest of waters. We had a wonderfult time, great food and good company. I am glad you enjoyed the Liberty as much as I did. My next cruise will be the Freedom of the Seas on Royal I hope the layout is a bit better then the Liberty since she is also a very large ship. Let us know once you book the next one.

MGram, don't worry about the blood on the ceiling Mrs. Thomas made it home just fine.

In case you hear some constant "clicking/tapping" noise it's the light panel above the vanity. I placed a folded up piece of paper up there to stop it. It drove me nuts (short trip I know) the first night until I found the cause of the noise.

Regards,
Thomas

Welcome home, Thomas. We were contemplating sailing on the Liberty, also. But, Trevor has an itinerary in front of me that says Carnival Legend, for late November, early December! It's a good deal but I don't know if I can wait that long!!
We also enjoyed Tortola and walked into town and ended up at a Food Rite grocery store to pick up some cheap wine for a cabin crawl activity. One thing I remember is the the chickens and roosters walking everywhere. I have a Tortola mug sitting right here on my desk that was purchased at one of the "booths" that was set up by the ship. It's now one of my favorites. The other thing I remember is the downtown traffic! They move fast, and from lane to lane!
Glad you had a good time! Lynne

Thomas.. what I want to know is how great was it watching the football on the HUGE screen?

Funny about the motion... we didn't find it that bad on the transatlantic sailing, except for a couple of days.
