I read a short article in the L.A.Times Travel Section saying that Priceline has seen their name-your-own-price bookings slide "30% to 40% year over year for the last couple of years." They began adding published fares and packages about a year ago.
The reasons given for the slippage were an increase in low-cost carriers and adoption of simplified fares by traditional airlines.
You could go on the Times website and read the whole thing, but you'd probably have to pay for it.
I have never used Priceline for airline passage. When flying I have to know what flight, airline and time that I am flying. I have only used them for hotels. The hotel policies aren't as "up in the air". You will get a hotel in the zone you want, for a minimum of two people, at the star level or higher, on the day you want, with a check-in time of 3:00 P.M.
I have always had a positive experience with them when using them for hotels. Except the first time when I really didn't know what I was doing and even then it was about the same price as I could have booked the hotel over the Hyatt Internet site.
Plus, Shatner has made a mint off of them. Now he's prostiuting himself on late night TV for some ambulance chasing law firm. So you know Priceline has got to be good.
