Default KIDNEY STONES again--need good thoughts for my son

My poor son is still haunted by the little buggers. He had a terrible semester last fall with them. When he was home for winter break, he had lots of testing done and they think they found the reason he gets SO MANY. They put him on Uricit to try and help prevent any more from forming. Problem is both kidneys have many small (1-2 cm) stones in them. Well, he had been feeling great both physically and emotionally until 2:00 am yesterday. Sure enough he went to the hospital and passed a 1-1/2 cm stone. That's the good news. Bad news is a CT scan showed he has approximately a 3 to 3-1/2 cm stone coming out of BOTH kidneys (close to coming out of the kidney and make the journey through his "tubes". There are still some small stones left in both kidneys, not as many as before. They are thinking that some of the small stones joined forces and become one. Imagine both kidneys, at the same time. Luckily he is taking the news well. Thank God for vicodin.

Me, I'm a wreck. Last year at this time he had so much trouble, he needed emergency laser surgery.

Please keep him in your thoughts that he passes these two fine and it doesn't screw up another semester of school. He already has to go an extra one.

Thanks very much.

WOW, He has my thoughts and prayers! I get them about every 10 to 15 years, and that's plenty. I hope they do find out what's causing them so frequently!

I will keep your son in my prayers. I've had 8 bouts with kidney stones, and I am sure more to come. I don't know of anything more painful. I wish him all the best, and pray that he will pass them quickly.

Prayers are on the way for your son. Wow, he is having his problems with SO many attacks of kidney stones. Ouch that hurts. I have had only two experiences with the stones and that's enough!!!

Hope his pain goes away soon.

Oh Cheryl, we know what you and your son are going thru! my DH has re-occuring kidney stones, not nearly as many as your poor son. He has had them "blasted" its Ultrasound or shockwaves i think - that worked wonders for him, it breaks up the stones into itty bitty pieces that can be passed with minimal discomfort. Has your son had this done??

Also "been there, done that"! Best wishes to your son for a quick recovery! He's so young to have these .

Ladies, if you haven't had "the stones", but have given birth, multiply the pain by about 100!

This is NOT fun

noulu, make sure he's not trying to be a "tough" guy (Men , what can we do?)! Make him take the meds!

He certainly has my well wishes. My stepson has had recurring bouts with stones since he was in high school. They seem to run in his family. The most severe and ill timed was just before his wedding. Fortunately, his wife had and continues to have the patience of Sarah with the condition, and its occasional flare-ups.

Wow, that isn't any fun. I just went through that a few weeks ago and passed them. I had to have one of them blasted into three separate ones to pass.

It would be a bear to have to keep having them crop up. My best wishes to him and I hope they can get them to stop forming.

Take care,
Mike
