Default When you have a mixed drink what do you order

I have decided to do part time bartending work along with doing these parties where companies hire out people to do casino games. Now last time I bartended was 13 years ago so tell me a mixed drink you know and I will see for myself if I know how to make it otherwise I better break out the book.

I prefer Margaritas myself frozen of course Yummy! But also like an occasional Long Island Iced Tea, or a Lynchburg lemonade. Once in a while I will make a Grasshopper (only I substitute vanilla ice cream instead of the regular cream/milk, its yummier that way)

Happy Mixing!

Several years ago we were without a bartender and Mrs. Thomas was about to freak out. She was beside herself thinking of the disaster which was about to occur on a Saturday night and no experienced bartender. I told her she could do it, and would have to do it, and that 90% of the drinks are going to be rum/coke, whiskey sour, margarita, daquiri, scotch/water, bloody mary, and she certainly could do those. Then if some request came in she didn't know just look it up in the book.

After that night, she was relieved to know I was correct, and she took over the Sunday night shift because she likes the interaction with the bar crowd and the tips too.

Now if somebody orders something she's not familiar with she just looks it up and if it's not in any of our books she just asks the customer how to make it.

Regards,
Thomas

I like Scotch and soda and if you can't figure that out, forget the bartending.

I'm not much of a drinker, but I see these neat looking drinks go by and wonder what they are cause they look good. But have no idea what to order. With the price of drinks I don't want to get something I don't like, so I stick with all the easy "70's" drinks. Rum and coke, vodka and orange juice.

Sad isn't it!

Someone needs to teach me!

A little off the topic, but if you order a mixed drink such as pina colada, margarita, etc. on RCCL, you should ask for a plain glass. If you don't, they automatically put it in a "souvenir" plastic glass which costs more than a dollar more, plus the gratuity. Maybe some want to take home a stack of plastic glasses, but not me.

Gin and Tonic (heavy on the gin) is my specialty. No lime, because the lime will get me drunk.

Margarita, but not the kind you get in a bar (too much of that sweet and sour junk, not enough tequila). A good Marg should be sipped like a martini, and should be shaken like one and served either up or on the rocks.

Original recipe please:
2 oz tequila, 1 oz Cointreau, 2 oz (or less) lime juice. actually, I like to substitute Jose Cuervo Margarita mix for the lime juice because it's not as acidy. If you use lime juice use about 1/3 water and add 1/4 t sugar. Try it, you'll like it!

Or Irish whiskey and a dash of soda is good.

I enjoy a glass of wine with dinner, but if out at the pool, its a BBC for me. Great drink for a nice sunny warm day sitting out at the pool on a cruiseship, nothing quite beats that!

A frozen Margarita or a White Russian. I found out on our last cruise that I liked Kaluha when the gift shop was giving out free samples! I didn’t think I would like it because I don’t like coffee, but it was delicious.

Or a "boring" bourbon (Kentucky, preferably) and coke with lime.

My new favorite is a cosmopolitan. I'll do a vodka martini every once in a great while, too.

i would study up on martinis. The trend seems to be towards the fancy, designer, flavored martinis. Everything from apple to chocolate Cosmopolitan's are very popular, and very yummy. My personal drink of choice is a simple Grey Goose and tonic with a twist of lemon.

How about something different like a Red Snapper, on the rocks, not a shot. I goes down really easy, like drinking punch.

If I order a drink, it will be a Fuzzy Navel, or a Margarita on the Rocks, with salt on the rim. I will also tolerate a Screwdriver. No rum, please. It makes me very sick.
Usually, it's a white wine like Almaden Mountain Rhine or Leiframilch and now, White Zin.

Hi OUS,
Do you know how to make a Tom Collins without looking it up? Sometimes, bartenders put the wrong alcohol in it.

And I will take the opposite....not too sweet, but really strong, please.

Bloody Mary, extra spicey
Nice draft beer
Grey Goose on the Rocks....extra olives
and the occassional Long Island Ice Tea

You wouldn't run into any problems if you were my bartender....that is, unless you skimped on the "extra olives".
