That's usually what I give them as well,,,but last time I had it delivered the total price was $ 12.00,,,All I had was 2 $20.00's and when I gave it to him he wanted to know if I needed change ??? Well needless to say that ticked me off,,,so I told him yep $8.00 worth. The he couldn't come up with enough change,,,so he got $3.00 tip anyhow. I felt like I had been scammed by the pizza delivery guy. Guess I should have called Pappa John's and complained,,,but I know it would have fallen on deaf ears,,,,I ALWAYS tip them,,,I'm really not this tight,,,but from this guys attitude I knew I was being taken advantage of,,,,What I should have done was taken my $ back and wrote him a check,,,,that would fixed him,,,<VBG>
We always give them a good tip, probably about 20% or more. We know it costs them more for gas now, and a lot of the people that do this need the extra cash. I don't know how it is in your areas, but our area most of the people who deliver are working a couple of jobs to support themselves or get thru school. As for them asking if you need change, it seems where ever we eat they ask that. I think its just something they do, even though I agree it shouldn't be asked.
They won't deliver to our house, either. Not because of the neighborhood - in fact, we don't have a neighborhood, we're out in the country. They have an aribitrary boundary line that is about 1/4 mile from our house. So, if we want pizza, we go out or make it ourselves.
If, however, we could get delivery, we would tip 20 - 25% of the bill.
