Something good from the the Star Princess fire tragedy
The Star Princess fire last month has prompted one cruise line to tighten it's smoking regulations.
Oceania Cruises has begun to enforce a "zero-tolerance" policy on passengers caught smoking outside designated smoking areas on it's ships. The penalty? Being taken off ship at the next port of call. "Smokers are wondering whether if it is worth risking a $20,000 vacation" said Oceania spokesman Tim Rubacky.
He said the line was giving letters to passengers warning about the new enfocement policy at embarkation.
Gosh, you mean I'll no longer have to put up with inconsiderate cigar-puffing women standing at the elevators (as happened on a previous cruise with my sister and mother) with me wondering where the staff is??? Hallelujah!! SIGN ME UP!!!
Maybe another smoke-free Paradise ship is in our future....
