Default Cruisemates: Century Cruisers! Itinerary Change:

Nancy has informed me that Celebrity has decided to change the itinerary of the Cruise of the Century or "Sail of the Century." This is not a joke.

The port of Key West has been dropped and now we are going to the wonderful sand beaches of Nassau, The Bahamas.

We can shop the Straw Market, enjoy the wonders of the Atlantis Casino, do the Dolphin Encounter, take a Glass Bottom Boat ride, snorkel in Crystal Bay, take a submarine ride or just have a lazy day.

I know many of you were looking forward to Key West and I have no idea why Celebrity has made this change but it will still give many of you the chance for warmth and sun that you were looking for.

Take care,
Mike (Who is thinking of swimming with the dolphins or the fishes)

Mike, take a look at this-

http://www.cruisecal.com/dnn/default.aspx?tabid=130

There is going to be four other boats in port. I dont know why they would put that originially, but have fun in Nassau

Ewok:

Cruisecal goes off of published schedules, that are often months old, and can often be inaccurate. This change was just announced and probably won't be changed on that site for quite awhile.

Take care,
Mike

Well, since my last cruise missed that stop due to a hurricane, & Key West may be on my agenda in June... so, I am fine with it... I know a great little boutique there, and, maybe I can get an almost designer bag too This could now be, SALE of the Century!!...

Aren't we going to Nassau on the two-day cruise as well? So we're going there twice? I just checked that tw-day cruise and couldn't even find it on the Celebrity site. Maybe te whole thing will change, tho' I hope not.

I have no idea where we're going on the two day.

Take care,

Mike, neither does Celebrity, apparently. None of it makes sense.

I for one, am very disappointed not to go to Key West, I have never been there and I was looking forward to going to Margaritaville, and seeing all the Jimmy Buffetts haunts.
My only consolation is that I will still be on a cruise with all the CruiseMates that I want to meet!

Well, I am going to Key West in November on the Radiance, so missing it on the Century will be not that big of a loss to me, but will be to many others. As for Nassau, can we say "ship day?" 8)

I 'm disappointed to miss this port. But, oh well, what can you do, Swim?

Nassau is not my favorite stop. Probably will stay on the ship.
If you have been there, dirty, crowded, cheap souvenirs.
The horse drawn carraige ride is nice.

I have often wondered why this island gets such a bad rap. It's really no worse than any the other island, at least to me....it has cleaned up it's act over the years...John Bull, has to be THE prettiest store in the Carib..Why is this so, to so many?

I haven't been to either port so it doesn't matter that much. If I had a choice it would be Key West over Nassau and that's based solely on what I have read on the boards.

Celebrity wrecked our plans as before the change we would have seen both ports on two different cruises next year. Century at Key West and Liberty at Nassau. Oh well, just go with the flow.

I have only been to Nassau twice, but I didn't find it to be so horrible either time. When I was with the Phabulous Phlamingos in February on the Carnival Liberty, April and I did the ship-sponsored city tour and Ardastra Gardens. I enjoyed seeing the city and hearing about the history, but Ardastra, which is a combination zoo and botanical garden, was great! The trained phlamingos were phantastic! I highly recommend it, and perhaps just going there in a taxi, since it's not too far, and that way you can stay as long as you want. We simply didn't have enough time to see it all and enjoy it to its full potential with the time frame of the ship's tour. Lisa, I don't remember what you did that day, but if you haven't been to Ardastra Gardens, I think it would make a great alternative to just staying on the ship.

Wow - that's really upsetting. The two day cruise included Nassau ... only hope they'll change it to Key West. Nassau twice in 7 days - more than a bit much! Been to both places many times and would much prefer Key West.

Well, since I have been to Key West more than Nassau lately I am fine with this. It'll give me a chance to see Atlantis again. It's been about 8 years I think.

Having just been on a cruise, that included Nassau, I have to say this is not a disapointment to me. I really enjoy Nassau, and have not had a bad time there yet. I prefere it over key west, which I was not looking forward to at all quite frankly. different strokes for different folks i guess,,,,,,,,,,,,

The lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and I were just in port in Nassau two weeks ago,,,,but of course,,,,we didn't leave the ship,,,,,so,,,,,It really doesn't make any difference to us where we go, or don't go. We never leave the ship anyway. I do know that lots of people, like RD will really be upset, and I don't blame them. We'll have a great cruise with two stops in Nassau during the week,,,,,where we don't leave the ship,,,,,anyway.
See you aboard,
Ken

And for another place to visit in Nassau:

We have visited the Queen's Staircase both times we were in Nassau and enjoyed it both times, as well! It's the highest point on the island (at the top of the Queen's Staircase is Fort Fincastle) and a most beautiful view of the cruise ships in port. It's easy walking distance from the ship, too. It was originally built by slaves for Queen Victoria and has one step for every year of her reign.

I really like Key West but I'll live with Nassau and not be bummed.

Thanks for the tip about the gardens, Jennifer, sounds like a great idea!
I love doing that sort of thing, I go to the Botanical Garden here on a regular basis.

Hi Trip,
Well,,,,almost never. When we visit Cozumel the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) has a favorite restaurant ashore that serves Margaritas in what I would call a 5 gallon bucket, so she enjoys going there. She can have two drinks, and I carry her back to the ship. We occasionally walk ashore in Grand Cayman if the weather is perfect, but we really do enjoy having the ship all to ourselves while everyone else is ashore running around, ashore! Having been on so many cruises, there isn't much that we haven't seen, or done in the normal Caribbean ports of call, however when, and if, I ever get retired, and we can do some other, longer cruises, I'm sure we'll find some places we'll enjoy visiting.
See you aboard,
Ken

Ok, question here...

Will we be able to get into all that Atlantis has to offer? Not just the casino? I really think this resort is cool and would like to see all of it. But is it just for the guests? Do we need a special pass or something. Can we get to it easy from the port?

As for Key VS Nassau. You can get to Key west via one of those speed boats anytime pretty easy. I'm fine with this change, but would be upset too if I were on the 2 day that follows with no change. Maybe they'll just make one 7 day cruise and combine them with no add'l cost. Yeah, I know! Fat chance there, but I can hope.

RD-you're right it doesn't matter where, we'll have a good time anyways. Looking forward to meeting you and your family. Is Delf still going or did she end up pulling out?

Tina

Tina, Delft is still undecided, but as she stated earlier in this thread, she prefers to the change to Nassau as she likes the beaches there. I'm still hoping she will decide to come, especially for our 2 sons to cruise together.

Judy - I don't know if it would do any good. According to Cruisecal.com there were five ships (including the Century) scheduled to be in Key West on 12/31. The Century was listed as tendering in. IMHO, Key West would have been overrun with that many ships in port and wouldn't have provided a good experience for any of us. Of course, Nassau will probably have a lot of ships too, but since I don't get off the ship (I'm like Ken and the lovely Mrs. Jones and enjoy the practically empty ship) it wouldn't matter to me. I was in Key West once when we were the only ship in port and it was a zoo then! I just can't imagine it with 5 ships in port.

Edited to add that the Century will be one of 3 ships in Nassau that same day.

Hey,I have an idea.
the cm's that choose to stay on the ship in Nassau, can have a card game, enjoy each others company ship by the pool, and have cold one. how about it? we will not be getting off in Naussa.
of course the stores, casino, will be closed. But, who cares we have the ship to ourselves.
it's way to early to plan, but just a thought.

Tina:

You can walk through all the public areas of Atlantis. To get into the Dig you need to do a tour. You can't get into the pool/water slides area unless you are a guest. From what I've read on this board you can get a pass if you book a room at the Comfort Inn too.
