Default Ft. Lauderdale hotel frustration

We are booked on Carnival Liberty 1/14/07 and I have spent hours researching hotels for the day before (Ft. Lauderdale). I realize this is high season and rates are on the sky, but we are bringing about 20 others along and would like to secure rooms that are at least clean and somewhat near the water taxi. Some hotels list "not available", but some will come on line after September. In the past we have stayed at four or five different places, but so far I can't find 8 to 10 rooms in the $150 price range. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried bidding on priceline. You can narrow down the location and bid for four star properties. You should be able to get something in the $80 range per room.

We stayed at the Best Western Oceanside, about a mile and a half north of the Port. It's next to the Yankee Clipper. We went through a discount hotel site and got a "run of house" (ROH) rate, only $47 instead of $79. However, I don't know if this would work for a bank of rooms. This hotel has been recently renovated and the roh room was extremely adequate for overnight! We booked the room for Oct. 22, 2005, the day before our cruise. Yankee Clipper has rates for about $135/night. That may or not be on the beach side however. Too expensive for us.

Call a TA and let them find it for you. Doesn't cost you anything.

cruisinforever~

When we have gone to Ft. Lauderdale, we stayed at the Days Inn in Hollywood FL. It was under $100 for the night, plus they have a free continental breakfast. They had a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel. We also got a ride back to the airport to meet the Carnival bus. I have stayed there everytime we leave from Florida!

Good Luck,
Erin

with a group of 20, turn it over to a travel agent, let the agency buy a block of rooms for your group - they can get a better rate.
