The good news is that Arlene and I will be moving to Tokyo!!
The bad news is that we will be cancelling Sail of the Century as we will be leaving for Tokyo in October.
The really bad news is that due to either a 13 or 14 hour time difference (depending on DST in US), I won't be able to participate in chat, except maybe Friday nights (Saturday morning in Tokyo).
We couldn't pass up this opportunity to work and live in another part of the world. Cruising will be a bit different with long flights to Europe or bullet trains to Osaka in our future.

Wow, that is really exciting! What a wonderful opportunity! We will miss you on the Cruise of the Century but that would be a long flight for the cruise!!! :-)

Congratulations on the new job and the move! I, too, am sorry that I won't get a chance to meet you and Arlene on the Century. Just think, now you can try Star Cruises!!

Congrats, Marc. Wow, that is so far away! We will miss you and Arleen on the Century and will miss you in chat. At least you can stay in touch on the boards, right?

It really does sound like a chance of a life time. How long will you be over there? Just think of all the new and exciting things you will be able to see and be a part of. Sorry you have to give up this long awaited cruise.
Marc,
I guess we were at the wrong table last Saturday at the get-together if you announced your move. It is an exciting opportunity for you and Arlene and I kind of think that this will be right up your alley!!
I'm with Angela Z, in that, we need one more opportunity to shake your hand, give a hug and share a meal.
We wish you and Arlene all the best on your new adventure in the Land of the Rising Sun! I'm glad we had the opportunity on Saturday to chat about your upcoming travel plans, and we hope that all works out well for you as you take up residence in the Tokyo area.
Learn the language, learn the customs, and enjoy the wonderful cuisine of Japan. That's all it will take to make your way successfully in that exciting country. You'll do just fine, of that I'm certain. Good luck! And don't forget ... never cross your legs and never point!!!
My husband spent some time in Japan because his company built a shipyard there. In fact, I met him while I, to, worked on that project. He was quite charmed by Japan.
I'm glad for you and Arlene, Marc. It's obvious that you both like facing new challenges, and spending time in different parts of the world.
I wish you were leaving a little later so that we could get to that last CM get together before you go. I hope you'll continue to add posts even if you can't get to chat.
I did a land trip to Japan a few months ago. Pretty much stayed in and visited the Osaka/Kyoto/Nara/Kobe/Himeji area. I didn't have time for Tokyo. I LOVED Japan. I would go again soon in a heart beat if it wasn't for what seemed like the longest plane ride ever! I would love to hear about your Japanese adventures! The local people were very friendly, the country was so clean and I found it incredibly easy to find my way around with out knowing the language. Well, after I learned to buy JR tickets, I found my way pretty easy but it did take about 15 minutes to learn the ticket machine I must have missed that chapter in Frommers! Anyway - good luck!
Marc, That is exciting news for you and your wife!!
I seem to remember you saying that you only had so many years until retirement. What a nice way to finish up your career!!!
I hope you both enjoy yourselves in Japan.
Brenda in Vancouver
