Default Servicemen Cruise Discount

We just realized were are able to take advantage of the discount, that is offered to discharged servicemen. While my husband was not in the service that long, we were told he does qualify.

I know Luanne, has been able to take advantage of these offers, and I wonder if anybody can explain a bit of how it works. Do all the cruise lines offer, this and what are the restictions,if any?

We are planning a spring cruise for our granddaughter, and would like to see if this is applicable. Thanks

I have taken advantage of the military discount a number of times. As I understand it, you only have to have served two years, and have an honorable discharge. You must have your DD214 in order to get the discount as well. The military discount isn't offered on all lines, or on all sailings. It is used to help fill up ships when the sales are slow, and as a result, you have to hit it just right to get the discount. The lines "turn off and on" the discount from one moment to the next, and from one day to the next, so let your agent know you want this discount, and a good agent will watch for it, if it happens to be turned off, and slip in your reservation when it's turned on. The amount of the discount varies greatly as well, but it's well worth the hassle of asking for it. I'm sure there's more to it than I know, but basically this is it. Good luck, and happy sailing!

Default Servicemen cruise discount

Trip, altho we have never taken advantage of this, my dh sent for his dd214 to have just in case. I only know it is available on Carnival, other cruise lines I'm not sure. It can be a nice discount.

Go to Vacations To Go and click on "military rates" and it will show you the cruise lines that have them.

Ken, Gave you great info about how it works. The best thing to do is if you are working with a TA, let them know you are interested in the discount, and let them follow the off and on thing.

It is also not a set amount. It depends on the cruise, and how full the ship is.

In addition to the military discount, NCL also offers a "union member" discount. If you belong to any AFL-CIO union, you are eligible.

FYI, just booked the Miracle, out of Tampa. I asked my favorite agent, (found her with Cruise Compete) to check on the fare with the military discount. She came back with a fare that was nearly $200 less than the best I was able to find myself, and she also stated that I got the last inside cabin available for the military discount. If you've earned the right to use the military discount, you're really missing a lot of excellent fares if you don't! 8)

I agree Ken. It can make a huge difference. Everyone should enquire about it.
