Default Profile In Courage

I read a great quote in the New Orleans newspaper this morning in regards to the latest hot "high profile" news story in relation to Katrina

At that moment of truth what does one do

"When it's the right thing to do, but you don't have the right"

For some reason, it reminded me of John F. Kennedy's book 'Profiles in Courage", where he recalls the courage that it took for some of our country's leaders to make an unpopular decision and suffer the consequences or be second guessed to their death

Have you ever had to make that type of decision or know someone that had ?

I often think in today's society, our leaders lack courage and conviction and the everyday person is afraid of being sued !!!

Default Profile in Courage

Yes, Venice, I have been in that position. In 1971 my father was dying of cancer. When we took him the hospital for the last time his temp. had soared to 106, but he was still lucid. The er doctor said to him he thought a double dose of morphine could be ordered, my father concurred. No one of us have ever felt guilty and Dad went peacefully. This is done everyday somewhere. Is it right? Is it wrong? No one has the right to judge that.

Cruisinforever..thank you for validating my thoughts..until you walk in someone's shoes, you cannot judge, which is what the media coverage is attempting to do in this (and other) cases

Betty's example has the answer. Bless the E.R. doctor who was human and humane enough to do what was right, whether or not he had the right.

Sometimes we all know what is "right", but have to go about it in our own way, whatever the consequences.

I could give you plenty of examples of Profiles In Cowardice, Venice. But then, who would want to read about all those #&[email protected]% politicians who have disappointed me?
