I just finished a book called The Dress Maker. The writer is Elizabeth Birkelund Oberbeck, and it was her first novel. It was very romantic, but I do get frustrated when authors don't tie up all the loose ends. Maybe she plans to write a second about the same characters.
I should add that I've been reading who-dunits by Laura Childs. She writes about an adventurous female detective who owns a tea shop in Charleston. Childs also writes the Scrapbook Mysteries for all you scrapbookers out there.
Judy I just returned Shadowman[wow] and PMS Murder [cute] and just picked up an anthology of cruise crime stories, edited by Lawrence Block. I can't wait to dive into this one! If someone annoys us on the Cruise of the Century, we can learn how to kill them

I just finished a book by Stephen E. Ambrose called Nothing Like it in The World (or a similar title). It's about building the transcontinental railroad. What a fantastic engineering feat!

Been working on a collection of 4 from Reader's Digest, including Bob Dole's "One Soldier's Story" and by far, my favourite so far, "The Undomestic Godess" by Sophie Kinsella. Apparently, her "Shopaholic" series are good too!
"The Vision" by Heather Graham. So far it's the best I've read this summer.
Guess now I'll have to check some of her other books.

Just read Marley and Me by John Grogan. It is about a very naughty (but beautiful!) yellow lab who gets into tons of mischief, and his life with the Grogan family. A must for animal lovers...had me laughing and thinking about my own 2 labs! These dogs are such characters!
I just fininshed "Angels Fall" by Nora Roberts , Earl read a Dean Koontz book.. 'By the Light of the Moon'. Its not one of his new ones.
Also, I liked 'Skinny Dip' by Carl Hiaasen. It is about Florida everglades. I know several places mentioned, so it was interesting reading, fast and funny.
I am currently reading Secrets, Lies and Betrayals by Maggie Scarf. It is a great insight on how the body and mind work together to hold the secrets of a life and how to unlock them. There is a lot of reference in this book to the people I work for, Albert Pesso and Diane Boyden-Pesso. Their work in psychotherapy and their methods of treatment are taught here at their home in NH. Interseting reading.
