Default Addiction v. Obesssion

Today I booked another cruise (Elation December). A coworker asked if it was an obsession. I replied, "no, an addiction."

Do you view cruising as an obsession or an addiction?

Default Addiction vs Obession

I agree with Donna! I just wish I could afford to indulge more in both!

I think it is both. Of course not everybody gets it bad, but if you do!! Stand back and don't try to stop someone from calling the TA

didn't Robert Palmer have a hit song a few years back "Addicted to Love" (VBG)

Back in the 90's I was in Europe during a World Cup...There is nothing in the United States sporting world that comes anywhere close to both the addiction and obsession (almost a nationalist fervor) that occurs during a world cup match between countries

IMHO cruising folks tend to be everyday working folks who seek a moment of relief during our lives by dreaming and posting on cruisemates about our obsession/addiction about cruising

Does the term "addsession" have negative connotations?

FYI: You all have to pay me 6.2 cents every time you use the new word I just coined.....

I call it an "alternative lifestyle".

Take care,

It is 'neither' for me, why I can go for a whole 2 months without being on a ship without having any form of withdrawl.

For me it's an addictive behavior --> Read cruise-related Web sites, peruse the travel section of the newspaper, price out various trips on a number of online agencies.

Once it's booked, it becomes an obsession --> read all I can online about the ports; start laying out clothes and making lists months before we leave.

I love it all!

I allways thought an addiction is an obsession. If you're addicted to something it soon becomes an obsession

After two, with a third in January, I'm obsessed, but I worry I may become addicted.

Default UCONN1 / JODI

I don't know yet. My first cruise is the end of this month. My second is the middle of next month. SO - do I have a FETISH without even being on one yet? It looks like Jodi & I are booked on the same cruise and we both live in Orlando! Keep an eye out for me - I'll be the one looking lost

Since fetish has a sexual conotation . . . well, you may well have a fetish but if you do, let's just keep that one to yourself!

i believe the more applicable term would be "fervor" in OTown's case !!!

Why Miss Magnolia Blossom...Proper Southern Women don't use words like fetish in a normal conversation..What has become of your manners !!! (VBG)

This Yankee turned Southern Gent does not have a "fervor" (which is a passion). I have a fetish (obsession)! My oh my - why does a good southern lady have her mind in the gutter? I was not raised in the trash - so I don't think like trash. I can't contain myself - HA HA! I know it has that connotation. I wanted to see who I bring down to my level and you are down here with me. Thank you - it was lonely until you all joined me. WELCOME TO THE GUTTER!

Any good southern gentleman (transplant or not) would defend the honor of a southern lady..Ms Magnolia Blossom was just making sure that the conversation around this topic remained on a higher level and remain 'PG" in nature

A passion for cruising has a more positive connotation...

Default Addiction vs Obsession

Addiction & Obsession = passion and without both passion AND ferver we might as well take the pipe. Totally essential to a well rounded life

Well Ms Magnolia Blossom..On my honor as a transplant southern gentleman, I promise that "you will never go hungry on a cruise ship again" and the only time your ears will ever hear the word "fetish" again is when a gentleman refers to your dainty toes !! (VBG)
