I haven't been around lately but anyone who knows me on this site knows that my DH, Mark, has never flown... and actually has a phobia of flying.
Well, somehow I convinced him to get on his very first flight next month! We're flying to Texas for a little family reunion for my grandmother's 90th birthday.
Even thinking about the flight is making him nervous (although if belgique is around, that book "White Knuckles" really helped a lot), so he is planning to go to his doctor between now and then for an anti-anxiety medication.
Hopefully, the flight will be a success... because that will mean we'll be able to cruise even further-afield in the future! Be thinking about him on Sept. 21!
Great to see you posting,,,,Tell Mark this must be the season for non-fliers to finally take that big step.
Dan is also flying on Aug 26th to Aruba. He has flown b/4 but it's been several years,,,and not without a big fuss. But this time it's our 40th anniversary and I kind of pressed the issue. <bg> Believe me he's not happy about it,,but he's gonna do it. <BG>
Glad he's going to give it a try. I sure hope it goes well and he will fly again.

I know how you feel... took 5 nurses and a doctor to hold me down once... i was 12... that was my last shot... trouble is... i have to get the menengitis one thursday... if i don't pass out... there could be a problem...

Location: Wisconsin....about 100 miles south of the Frozen Tundra and 70 miles east of Camp Randall
Obviously neither Cynic or Gambit have had a shot given by moi! I am always called on to give injections where I work to the needle-hating, injection-phobic patients and I have NEVER had one complain about a shot I have given. You just have to use distraction and the gentle touch! It's not the needle that hurts, it's the fluid that is injected into your muscle that hurts as it is displacing fluid already there....the hurt lasts less than 30 seconds as the serum is absorbed. Deep IM's, flu shots, insulin shots, TB skin tests, deep muscle injections.....done them all with no complaints. And guess which of all these types of shots hurt the most? Believe it or not - the TB skin test!

Lisa>>> "moi" is the problem. I can give myself a shot no problemo, I think. It's the white-suited person with the weapon and the clinical surroundings that I have deep mental issues with..... It goes back to the polio injections we lined up for in elementary school circa 1969..... I recall the needle used was more than a foot long, and had some barbed wire wrapped around it. The nurse giving it had one big eye in the middle of her forehead..... and had no patience for little squirmy whiners. I think it took four eight-foot aliens to hold me down.
since then, I'm a tad squeamish.... I wonder why. I guess I had a Calvin-esque imagination......
Just 1 month to go until the "Cruise Cynic Mystery Cruise" ... January 2008
Michelle--happy to hear that Mark is going to give flying a chance.
Now we need to work on my mom to get her to give cruising a chance. She's deathly afraid of the water. She is coming with me on a cruise ship tour of the HAL Maasdam on August 19th. Hopefully she'll see that a ship isn't like being in a row boat.
Congrats. I used to have the same problem myself - then I got a job that required being in a different city every week. Sometimes twice a week. And that's how I went from plane-o-phobe to a 100,000 mile premiere exec on United in 6 months, ha ha.
Tell your husband that the most dangerous part of any plane trip is the drive to the airport.
I'm so glad for you. Hopefully, he will learn that its just a fast way to get from A to B.
I'm going through the same thing with my parents. they are getting up there in years and have had this problem with flying for the longest time now. I don't get it since we flew overseas all of my childhood.
Life is too short to let the ship of your dreams sail without you.
