There is a magazine called the Rob Report that sells these things. They also have private islands for sale.

John Travolta lives very near me here, and he has his 707 and his "little" Sabre Jet parked just outside his home. You might talk him into selling one of those. Or, you can go to any airport, and you'll find a few used aircraft for sale. Just be sure to tell them your name is "SurferDude" and they'll give you special attention.

First of all, I applaud your desire to become a pilot. I have had my pilot lisc. for 11 years now and I own a piper arrow 2 with some friends in a flying club. My advice is to 1st start working on your lisc. with a flight school or an independent CFI. If you haven't already, you should go to www.aopa.org and join the Airplane Owners and Pilot's Association. Here you will find a wealth of information about everything you need to know, including how to find an instructor or flight school, requirements for your medical certificate, insurance, how to purchase an aircraft and lots of tools to become a pilot and an airplane owner.

Don't worry about purchasing any aircraft just yet, just focus on finding a flight school or an instructor. After you are well into your lessons, you will meet many other pilots and instructors that can help you in your search for the right airplane. Do your fixed wing private lisc. 1st, then do the transition to the rotor wing, it will be easier and better that way I've found. When you are ready to purchase, some good planes for you to learn in would be a 2 seat cessna 152 (they run about $26k-$30k for a good used one), a 4 seat cessna 172 (they run about $45 - $60k for a good used one) or a 4 seat piper warrior (they run about $45k - $60k for a good used one). There are a lot of FAA regulations about owning and maintaining an airplane, so be aware of these before you plunk down money towards an airplane. Just go to the good folks at AOPA and they can fill you in on everything!

Good luck in your lessons and welcome to the aviation community. There are message boards at AOPA you can go to with questions after you join AOPA and they are great at helping student pilots with all their questions.

Oh yeah, and happy cruising too!!!

In defense of the joksters from the biggest joker here of all your post sounded a little like you were kidding. Since going from someone who hasn't even started flight school yet to talking about buying planes and helicopters that is like one exteme to the other. learn to walk before you run. It was nice of blueliner to take you seriously as he appears to be a plane fanatic. But I always tell people to re read thier posts before posting it and see how it sounds to someone else on here reading it. Having said that good luck with your endeavor!

I don't think anyone meant anything derogatory, just some harmless fun. Good to see want to join AOPA, great organization and they will help you and guide you through everything and help with any and all FAA regulations. Another web site I forgot to mention was www.beapilot.com They have a lot of good intro info for you there as well. Once you get an AOPA membership, get on the message board there and ask away at any questions you have. I'm also on that board alot, so you'll see me there. One thing you'll learn about pilots, we love to talk aviation and we love to answer student's questions. So hope to see you on the AOPA boards as well.

Get your search started for a flight school and an instructor and get in the air! Good luck to you!

The FAA's motto for pilots: "We're not happy until you're not happy!"

Sorry SurferDude! I really did think you were kidding! I've been a licensed pilot since 1964, (no, Orville and Wilber didn't sign my ticket) and I too am proud of anyone who really wants to learn to fly. There is absolutely nothing more satisfying than passing the written, and then the flight test to get that private license. Once again, I honestly thought you were kidding, and especially when you said you were in the market for an airplane, as well as a helicopter. (Not done very often)
Once again, my apologies, and if I can do anything to help you out. please let me know!

Ken

Surferdude..relax, sometimes it's a sign of acceptance when cruisemates joke with you..and you have to learn the difference between that and some who are maybe not so kind (watch a posters pattern over a period of time and you will be able to tell)

My son flys F-22 Raptors in the air force and he started out when he was young sweeping out hangers and pretty much followed blueliners advise and then went to the USAFA and earned his wings. He is also a certified glider pilot which you may want to pursue also..I know it helped alot with his flying, plus he owns a glider

He and some of his fellow fighter pilots just went in together and purchased a Cirrus SR20-G2 (actually on a lease back)..you might check out Cirrus's web page just to see some of the neat planes out there

it takes a great committment both in study and money to fly but if you are determine you will succeed

Yes, I'm blueliner at AOPA as well. Hope to see you on the AOPA message board. Work and study hard, ask lots of questions and keep us updated on how your doing. You'll get a lot of support from your fellow pilots on the AOPA boards.

Oh by the way, when you get to the point your instructor is about to solo you, make sure you wear a white teeshirt you don't mind gets ruined......you'll thank me for that later!

Fly safe pilot!

Has anybody thought to check out the profile and web site of this poster?

The only description that comes to mind is: "very strange, very odd".

Haha I dont think im qualified to be a pornstar Rescuedad,But I gotta admit, that would be AWESOME lol!

What is so "very strange, very odd" about my little brothers myspace? For those of you that dont already know,surferdude2109 is my younger brothers name on cruisemates! However,he stopped using it a while back (or so I thought) so I just started using his name, because I'm too lazy to make my own and most of the people on here already know me as Surferdude!

I am disappointed. You mean the sweet guy that use to talk to us, is your younger brother? Now I don't know who said what. About when did he stop, and you start?

Default Plane and Helicopter

I am so confused.

When we post to you, do we say surferdude2109 younger or older brother, or just surferdude2109 ???

Just kidding. Good luck with your flying plans. Hope everything works out for you.
