We are sailing the Freedom next September and will be booking air soon.
The final port of call is Rome (Civit) and the ship overnights there.
I called Carnival to ask what time they disembark and was told 6:00 a.m.
They recommend flights no earlier than 10:00 a.m. I asked if 10:00 flights were a problem and she said they do it all the time.
Seems a bit early to me with transport to the airport and security being what it is. Anyone have experience with this port?
Haven't disembarked in Rome before, but have several other European locations. On those, they started to disembark people at 3:00 a.m.
Now, even though they say 10:00 a.m., remember it is app 1 1/2 hours from Civetevheccia (sp) to Rome. I'd personally be a bit leary of it unless they told me they started to disembark much earlier than 6:00 a.m.
IMO Do Not Accept any flight out of Rome before 2-3 PM. It is too far from the port to make any earlier flight. You will have 3 or more types of transportation from the Port. Bus,(by the cruise line), Train, Rental Car, Taxi. None will get you to the airport in time to make an earlier flight. Security is very tough now and so many ways to miss your flight. If I was doing it I would book a hotel and spend the night then catch next day flight. Marriot Courtyard is within 2 miles of the airport. We stayed there a couple of nights and it is nice.
Cruising on Royal Princess: April, 25 2015. Transatlantic: Port Everglades to Southampton
