Default N.O. Saints Vs Falcons Monday Night Football

It is no big secret that I love my Falcons. I have loved them for years. I remember a time, when you could not give the tickets away, but I was always their biggest fan.

The problem is that this week they play what is probably their biggest rival. This rivalry goes back years and years. It is a game that has been anticipated every year for as long as I remember.

Yesterday I was talking about the game, and a friend said, "But it's the home opener for the Saints, in their new redone stadium." "You can't hope they loose." I thought about it for a few minutes, and said "oh yes I can."

Lord knows I have tried to help those in N.O. as much as I can. I have helped them here locally, donated money, and been a big supporter of my friend Jim who his living there, and has gone through so much.

But...........

This is football.

So, Michael Vick and crew, go get um. But New Orleans you are still in my prayers.

I am with you Luanne!

Unfortunately, I am really having a hard time with the state of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans spending 180 million on a stadium redo. As I have stated before, I live outside of Houston and I have personally met a lot of former New Orleans residence who are and have been devistated by the waste of money and lack of organization on the recovery effort. If anyone has visited New Orleans recently, it is in complete disrepair. I know of people still waiting on FEMA trialers!!! To hear on the news that workers are working 16-hours days ($$$$) to get the stadium ready on time is bu**sh@!

Sorry to have gotten on my soapbox, but I have donated money and time to this cause, I have sat with parents who are homeless trying to enroll there children in our school district and they have nothing!!!! I can't make sense of this waste of money.

Renee, I have to agree with you. there are a lot more important things to spend so much money on in New Orleans. I was stunned when I heard that. I could not believe that playing football was more important than helping the citizens of New Orleans.

I think both you and Renee are off target and are taking a very narrow view of the situation. The reopening of the Superdome is a big big psychological boost for the city and a signal to the world that they are coming back. It was covered by the world press. The Superdome is far far more than just football. It is an important anchor to their economy, generating much needed revenue for the city, not just through sports, but through conventions and special events as well. It draw$ touri$t$ and bu$ine$$. In the end it is much more of a help to the citizens than the millions that FEMA has tossed down the toilet.

Doug R is right but I feel the whole thing was the fault of the people of new orleans right up to the white house. Mostly everyone in between. there were many educated mistakes that have come out that have been portrayed on the news since last year.

All of this talk is why I turned the game off just after the 4th quarter started. I have done what I could for N.O. and they are still in my prayers, but I wanted to watch a football game. Unfortunally the game was just an excuse to be there, and rehash what has been said so many times before. I don't have all the answers, because you can be sure I would be there to straighten out everything, but I do know that mistakes were made in dealing with the fine folks in this town, and if they are not straightened out, history will repeat itself, and that would be a crime.

But, last night.... I wanted to see the game.

I thought that Mardi Gras was their "big ego/moral booster" DougR.

Maybe this hits closer to home for me, I have friends and family in Louisiana and as I stated there are many displaced new Texas residence from there. Oh yeah, I forgot toa dd the fact that besides the schools being non existent, not all their hospitals are up and running yet.

I don't consider myself narrow minded at all. I live this everyday. Maybe you should rethink your views???

Renee- I said you were taking a narrow view not that you were narrow minded. The economic effect of the Superdome creates much needed employment for the area. Yes Mardi Gras, which was also criticized, was a morale boost, however, why would the beleagured region be entitled to only one? To be consistent you must also be critical of the scramble to rebuild the casinos in Missisippi. After all, why should anyone allowed to have fun during the recovery?
