Default Hull NO, Hull Yes!

Finally! A cruiseline had the good sense to name a ship Pearl..I was waiting for Pearl of the Seas, but, RCI just didn't read my emails I guess So... NCL went ahead, and is naming a ship, The Norwegian Pearl! yayayaya!

Now, the problem, I saw a picture of it,[oh no] and it has, in bright paint, a string of Pearls painted on the hull!! That used to be what I called my family..my String of Pearls...)

But I digress...I have to say, I don't like any paintings, or writing on ships, other than it's name..I hated the no smoking icon on the Carnival Paradise.....I hate the RCI slogan on the sides of their Voyager class ships too...I wish they would not fool with the classic designs.. Do you like artwork on ships? Oh, and do you prefer a dark hull...ala HAL, some Celebrity or the white..Princess etc..How about you,Hull no, hull yes!!~!

Linda Pearl..aka Trip

I love them all ! Especially one that I am boarding! I'm so happy they have named a ship after you.... what an honor. I'm afraid I'm going to have to buy my own boat to have it named after me. I just can't seem to get a nautical feel with to flow with it

I like a white hull too. The black, dark ones look like a cargo ship.

Trip, What an honor. You and the Queen have your own ships.

I sort of like the look of the dark hulls....more of a classic look to me.

Its about time!!!

I've always thought that would make a lovely name for a lovely ship.....now. we'll wait and see if another cruiseline follows suit and uses the same name again...

Now that they named a ship after you Trip, I think the least they could do is offer you a free cruise! )

I kind of like NCL's colourful ships, but then I love colour!
If I had to choose between the white and the dark hull, I prefer the whites.

I like the NCL ships for their Freestyle cruising, the size of the staterooms on the newer ships and some of their entertainment but I have to admit that to me the paint jobs on their ships are pretty gaudy.

I prefer the older blue and white Celebrity, or HAL color scheme.

One piece of trivia. There is a significant cost increase to cool a dark colored ship than a white ship. Dark colors absorb heat while white reflects heat. It is a major reason most ships are painted white.

Take care,
Mike

Having seen the Pride of Hawaii, and the Dawn in person, I have to admit I kind of like the painted hulls. It makes them distinct... which NCL's Freestyle truly is.

Default Pearl

This is not the first Pearl. We have sailed in 1994 and 1995 on Paquet PEARL. Those cruises were one of the best cruises we have had.

So Trip you had been honored long before his one. Hope you get to cruise on this new one and enjoy it.

Default Hull No, Hull Yes

Luanne beat me to the punch with you and the Queen having a ship named after you.

Anyway congrats.

As for me, I like white hulls. As Kuki mentioned, I like some of the painted hulls, not all of them.

MikeM, I also like the freestyle cruising.

Trip, please continue to lounge in the moment !!!!!!!!!

I don't like hull artwork, I think it looks really tacky. I prefer classic paint schemes a la Cunard (Obviously ) or HAL.

It's funny you should bring this up....

I don't like it either. I think it "cheapens" the look of the ship.

Anyone else have any thoughts???

Nope, I'm a Hull No, too! I don't mind either white, blue or black but all these decorations seem kind of silly to me.

A traditionalist in ships I guess.
