How come there is not a topic for river cruising? Or have I just missed it? After some 14 Ocean cruises, my DW says we are doing a river cruise on the Danube and Rhine. I suspect that is what we will do since for more than 40 years now she has been, "she who must be obeyed."

We do have a Viking River board and would love some more activity on it. My wife and I have dreamed and have come close to booking a Rhine River cruise. I love the idea of doing a river cruise and having multiple ports that are close together and have beautiful views. I think this gives you both the convenience of having a floating hotel and the more intimate vacation experience of a land vacation. This really allows you to really experience a region. This may overcome my one "travel" complaint about cruising, in that you don't get enough time in one location.
I know Paul Motter has done some river cruising. He did a Yang Tse river cruise but was somewhere between "Under the Weather and Near Death" during the cruise so it may not have been a great experience for him. He would have to speak more about it.

We have done some River Cruising and I say it is upper class. Most ever stop we made was right in town. Walk off the ship and it is all there. Many of the agencies have all included tours from the ship. Mny years ago we cruised the Rhyne down from Coloyne pass the Lori Bend and heck I can't remember much more. that was in 1977.
Then only last year we had the Russian River cruise. It was the greatest. Sarted in Rostov on Don and cruised the Don river into the Volga. Passed thru zillions of locks and Ice. We stopped at many cities along the was. We used Grand Circle Travel for this one.
Booked next June 2, 07 on the MS Amadagio with the Amadeus Waterways. We leave from Budapest, Hungary cruising the rivers across Europe to Amsterdam, Netherland. That will be a super cruise we are sure. We will be with our Friends from Ottawa, Chuck and Mary.
We will be using a Canadain Agency for this one.
