Phyllis.. it really depends on how badly the parents want to get rid of it

Kuki!! Very funny!! Sooooooooo, what you are saying is...
YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT A 'TOT' IS ??????

Geesh! I was sure you could tell me. I guess I will just have to
visit all the bars, in town, & see if any of the local bartenders
know what it is.

Lets see, 26 bars in town, one drink in each bar, just to be polite....

Hmmmm, it's going to be a short night!

Thanks Kuki......

Pudy, I don't know what a "Tot" is either, but it sounds British to me....I'll ask my hubby when he gets home - he grew up in a British Pub!

A tot is just a small amount od the liquor.

Is amarulla an alcoholic beverage??? if so then a "tot" is equal to one US gallon!! :D

Hi Phyllis,
I looked on the internet here is a quote "Just in case you wanted to know 1 'tot' = 2 imperial ounces or 2 1/2 US ounces" Hope that helps. :D

Pudy October 5th, 2006 04:13 PM

OK, Ladies & gentlemen...according to an e-mail I received...a 'Tot' is a unit of volume for liquor. Generally the term is used informally, with no fixed definition. However, in British pubs the usual understanding is that a tot is 1/6 gill; this is equivalent to 5/6 Imperial fluid ounce or about 23.7 milliliters. A gill is 1/4 pint, or 1/2 cup or 4 U.S. fluid ounces & 5 British ounces.

Sooooo, a Tot is a tad less than an ounce. And we all know how much a 'tad' is. Right???

I like rescuedad's guess of the measure. A GALLON!! Hopefully he will invite all of us to his house for drinks. Whoo-Hoo!

Thanks everyone.

katlady.....I thank you for the information. Now I am more confused.

You saw 2 1/2 ounces & my son-in-law e-mailed that it was less than an
ounce. I think it is just going to be a matter of taste. I will start with an ounce & work my way up. This is one time that test tasting is really going to be fun!

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Lisa,
Here is the offical description:
Africa's most exotic cream liqueur produced from the fermented fruit of the Marula tree. Elegant and - yes - creamy, with an interesting twist of fruity sweetness. Decadent. I purchased my bottle on a carnvial cruise after a taste test. :D

LisaK October 6th, 2006 03:38 PM

"exotic, elegant, decadant" sounds more like......nevermind.

Pudy October 6th, 2006 04:54 PM

LisaK....My dh & I like Amarula, but we can not get it here in PA. We have to buy it in Maryland. On their web site, they offer many recipes other than for drinks. I saw a couple that I wanted to try, but they called for a 'tot' & that is what started this goofy thread.

If you get the chance to try it, I think you will enjoy the taste. Really smoooooth!

Cheers!

PS: Don't pay any attention to rescuedad....I think he has been smelling too many corks again!

A Tot is a shot as in a Tot of rum that the sailors of old received at sea.

Amarula is a cream liqueur very similar in consistancy to Bailey's.
