Default 29 Members Of Congress Take 'Dog the Bounty Hunter's' Side

Twenty-nine Republican members of Congress have gone to bat for Hawaii bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman.

They've sent a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice asking her to deny the extradition of Chapman to Mexico.

The letter said it seems Mexican authorities are pressing the case only because they are stung by the embarrassment of failing where Chapman succeeded.

I know Rice has a lot of her plate, but maybe she'll take the time to help Dog.

Reading the reports it seems Dog took a shot at the American government for failing where he succeeded. It seems the authorities in Mexico filed papers some time ago for the extradition of Dog and two associates for failing to appear in court in July 2003. Extradition proceedings can take a long time as is the case here but the extradition papers have now been signed apparently.

I can't believe Congressmen are involving themselves in this...kidnapping is a crime in pretty much all countries, including Mexico.

I would CERTAINLY hope that Condi pays more attention to the North Korean crisis, Iraq war, Afghanistan war, and everything else before she gets involved in something like this!

As far as the Congressmen go, no Congress has met for less days since 1948, and they spend their time on this?

Good point, Desdemona.....

I noticed that you sure put a screeching halt to any "debate" on this thread.

Good work putting things in perspective. Maybe we have business here at CM discussing doggy topics ad nauseum, but Congress???

Do a google search... I'm sure there's THOUSANDS of messages boards you can find which will fit your criteria for stimulating discussions, and not discuss "doggy topics ad nauseum"

Somewhat odd that you want to keep insisting a cruise discussion board fit a mold to suit you, that it wasn't designed for, or intended to be.

Yikes, I guess I missed something. Who was "insisting" anything?

According to the main "People" discussion page, the Chit-Chat board is designed for and intended to be "Open forum for what's on your mind. Feel free to say it here."

If you mean it to be "Open forum for cruising topics on your mind. Feel free to say anything about cruising", then you should change the topic on the main page. Otherwise, people will obviously be confused.

Cheers, Aidan

I have no problems with civil discussions of most any topic.... though we've asked numerous times to keep the discussions away from religion and politics (because they don't generally stay civil very long).

What I take issue with is the put down... referring to other people's topics of choice for discussion as "doggy topics".

Simply a put down of other posters, which had no point to make in the discussion of the topic of the thread.

Since we have two or more threads by you on this I have a half serious question. Are you and the "Dog" related?

I think it's JeanS' favourite topic at the moment. Pet topic. Or "doggy" topic. I've seen waaaaaaaay more frivolous topics posted here btw. And Desdemona does make a valid point. Good point, actually.

I guess Kuki just doesn't get out much. Or reads maliciousness where there is none present. It seems like it's his personal project to bash the cynic.

I highly recommend someone bone up on the following terms:
metaphor
simile
irony
assonance
alliteration
euphemism
allegory
hyperbole
motif
oxymoron
parable

WRONG.. but

You've been posting well within the guidelines, and I appreciate that, and haven't posted anything tp limit that, nor deleted a post of yours in a VERY long time.

But, when ANYONE approached or crosses the line it's my job to remind them of the line.

No one should be telling people who post, whether directly or implied, which topics are interesting, and which are not.

My ONLY "personal project" is to see everyone who posts on CruiseMates dealt with with respect, and feel welcome to post.. and thus continue to grow the community and the site.

If that is true, then why quote me out of context.

"doggy topics ad nauseum"

carries a very different meaning from

"Maybe we have business here at CM discussing doggy topics ad nauseum"

Actually, in the second quote, I don't even see a slight, just a statement of fact. In fact, it is our business here to discuss our pet topics. How do I cross the line?

The quote was
Quote:
Maybe we have business here at CM discussing doggy topics ad nauseum, but Congress???
... which carries yet another meaning again.

though the "ad nasuem" is judgemental in each context.

It is not judgemental in familiar company. Merely to say to outsiders it may appear "ad nauseum"...

One again, you rush to judgement. Doesn't my mere continued presence here substantiate this point? If malice was intended, I would have moved on long, long ago.

Fair enough, but that is not what you said. You said the problem was people "insisting" about molding cruise boards to suit themselves. ("you want to keep insisting a cruise discussion board fit a mold to suit you, that it wasn't designed for, or intended to be"). You never mentioned putting down other people. Why didn't you just say don't call it a doggy topic?

As a moderator, you should know that in a written forum, where tone and facial expression are non-existent, words are paramount to convey meaning. We are not mind readers.

How anybody could have garnered "don't put others down" from "don't mold a cruise board to suit you" is beyond me.

Cheers, Aidan

Seems simple enough! And if all posters were to read the User Agreement, and post with the sort of consideration it calls for a moderator wouldn't even be necessary

And if each and every post was a story into itself that would be simpler .

I just read the User Agreement. It still sounds like you have a personal problem with CruiseCynic. I mean, come on, "doggy topic" is what you are going on and on and on and on about?

It does seem simple enough.

What does that mean? It is obvious you dislike CC intensely, but you are reverting into nonsense mode again.

I think people who moderate public forums have a duty to put aside personal bias and judge posts on merit and words only. If the phrase "doggy topics" is the worst you have seen in Cruisemates, then you are not reading many posts.

Cheers, Aidan
