Default Woman overboard again!

Another one goes over the rail....

Woman may have jumped during cruise
Body thought to be that of the missing passenger is found off coast of Mexico. FBI boarded ship upon its return to Port of L.A.
By Donna Littlejohn
DAILY BREEZE

An eight-day cruise along the Mexican Riviera took a grim turn this week when a passenger reportedly jumped overboard from the back of the 2,400-passenger Norwegian Star as it made its way to the Port of Los Angeles.

A televised news report that the body of a woman -- presumed to be the missing passenger -- was found later off the coast of Mexico was not confirmed Friday by Ken Smith of the FBI's Los Angeles office.

"It's still a pending investigation of a missing person aboard a cruise ship," he said.

When asked whether there was any evidence of foul play, he said, "I can't confirm that."

FBI officials Friday would not even confirm the gender or in any other way identify the missing passenger.

The 15-deck ship, which left the Port of Los Angeles on Oct. 5, returned to port in San Pedro as scheduled Friday and FBI agents boarded the vessel to interview passengers.

The woman's traveling companion reported that she was missing at about 7 p.m. Wednesday as the ship sailed in Mexican waters passing by Cabo San Lucas on its way home, according to a statement released by Norwegian Cruise Line.

The Norwegian Star notified the Coast Guard and FBI and turned around, spending several hours that evening in a search along with the Mexican Navy. Passengers were told what had happened at the time, said Norwegian Cruise Line spokeswoman Susan Robison.

The ship arrived back in Los Angeles on Friday, but it was delayed by a few hours due to the search.

Stops on the cruise included Acapulco, Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas.

By late afternoon Friday, the FBI had concluded its interviews and new passengers were boarding for the ship's next eight-day cruise, scheduled to leave for Mexico that evening.

I don't know the exact figures but will venture to say it is pretty close. Carnival (21) may have a couple more ships but RCI (20) has greater capacity on most of them.

If you read the history of all incidents, it seems alcohol, losing money in the casino and arguments comprise the majority. They are often interrelated.

This is all too bad.I leave Sunday on Mariner OTS.My family keep trying to talk me into not going.I have been so guilty of "donating"in the casino.Never once had the thought of jumping.I have no reason or explanation for the overboard. This is the first time of not going on Enchantment.I love the ship and have always felt safe. Thanks Dave for giving some of the info. as we are not always given facts or figures.

Have as much fun on that ship as I have had.

Joyce,

This will be #4 on the Enchantment. I fully intend to have a great time. I will keep my belly flop in the pool and not over the side. I can't imagine it ever being that bad. Only time I considered it was when on the Sensation and the purple colors driving me mad.

Doing the Mariner in the Spring. Let me know how you like it.

Default Mariner Was Great

We were on the Mariner of the Seas in March and had a wonderful cruise, loved the ship and crew.

Had cruised Royal Caribbean and Celebrity previously and decided to try Royal again. No regrets, love both!

Pam in KY - anxiously waiting for Cruise #8!
