I've heard that promoters are trying to book a televised (pay-per-view) show on an RCI Voyager-class ship, to be broadcast from the ice rink theater. This is no-rules bare-fisted combat and is the kind of thing that has been banned in many places (Montreal is one... they tried a few years back to sneak it into the Mohawk Reservation to bypass the bureaucracy).... so they figure it can be done in International waters with less red tape.
Anyone hear anything? Your thoughts on this possible turn of events?
Just 1 month to go until the "Cruise Cynic Mystery Cruise" ... January 2008
For one, UFC is a brand much like Nike. Mixed Martial Arts(MMA) is the sport of combining all of the different disciplines(wrerstling,judo,jiu-jitsu,boxing..etc). MMA is regulated by Athletic Commisions in all of the major states(New Jersey,Nevada). There has been only 1 death in MMA and that was in an unsanctioned event in Russia about 7 years ago.
The Montreal fiasco that you are talking about is because of some polliticians(John McCain) had interests in boxing and raised a big stink and started saying how barbaric it was. There are more rules in MMA than in boxing but because of how they were protrayed in the media, everyone thinks it is bare knuckle no rules.
