Default A bit of the story of my hotel/bar

Awhile back I mentioned one of our local TV stations did a report on the sale and closing of my hotel & bar.

Turns out it's available online, including the video clip... if you care to see it.

Default closing

Question: Who is the other guy talking about not being able to get in?

Thanks Kuki for the link.

Now you can become a snowbird. Come down here in the winter and back up north in the Summer. Or Buy a condo on the Resident Sea and cruise all the time.

I really enjoyed that Kuki. Thank you for sharing. I didn't know that your father had been a part of the operation as well. What about the rest of your family. At one time, was it all of you? How does your dad feel about the closure? What about that shirt. Does that collar always stand up like that, or did someone need to make it lay down?

I do wish you all the luck in the world. It must be very sad for you, but when you finally close the doors, you can look back one more time, and say to yourself. "Thanks for the Memories"

Watching that was neat..it brought back memories of the Bar Mitvah gang I have an idea....Have the cook, make about 1000 pounds of chicken, ribs, fries and coleslaw, and Fedex a bit to all of us!

Those were the days my friend

Just wish I could have gone there---
I'm sure it holds a special place in the hearts of many people----
I'm sad about its closing and again Ive never been there--but have had several places that were near and dear to my heart close their doors too----ah the good old days
Thank you for sharing-- I'm sure as the day get closer to the final closing its getting harder for everyone --
April

Hey Kuki:

Sure would love a bar on the east coast that served beer for $2.00 + a nickel. Good story & video.

That really was the place to be,
But now your place has become the sea!

I am just sorry that I never got to visit the hotel.

Thanks for posting that Kuki. It sure is strange to hear you talking "for real"!
Although I've been talking to you for about 4 years now, I just never knew what you sounded like!
It's gonna be a sad day when you all say goodbye to that hotel.

P.S. I want some of those chicken and chips too!

Glad to see some people enjoyed the article.

This coming Friday is our Black Tie Farewell charity fund raiser (everyone attending gets a souvenir tuxedo t-shirt, with a caricture of the Premier of the Province, who is also retiring... and signed by him).

We'll be having tons of media there. Maybe some more film will end up online that you'll be able to see

A nice write-up, Kuki, and very sentimental. I hope that whatever else you take up will be satisfying for you.

Seems we have something in common Antlerhead. We have decided to sell our restaurant and bar this winter and completely retire. Will you be seeking other opportunities or moving into the world of the non-working for life?

Regards,
Thomas

We've decided, for the immediate future, to buy an RV and travel North America for a few years. We've thought of searching for a couple of condos in our travels, one in the north, one in the south, to split our time in when we decide to stop traveling. We've also thought of spending a few months a year in a resort area and doing some part time work to keep busy. We have plenty of options but for sure we're doing 3 cruises per year, those are already in the budget.

Regards,
Thomas

Kuki, I keep a very long list of travel destinations and Calgary was on the list. I don't suppose I'll be staying at "the Louie" when I come.

Sounds like a sad day for Calgary, but I know you'll enjoy your retirement.

Very interesting article, Kuki. By any chance was your Dad in the video portion? Best of luck in your new endeavors.

Where have I been, Kuki?!?! I had no idea you were closing. Hopefully, retirement will turn out great for you, and you will get to cruise more.

Thomas - Mark and I never did go up there and check out your restaurant... when will it be "under new management?" We'd still like to get up there if we can while you're there.

Cheers,
Michelle P.

Unlike Thomas.. I won't actually be retiring. Probably take a break for a few months, in the midst of winding up the company, getting all the accounting etc. done. Then I'm likely to start the search for a new business venture.

Hopefully the new venture will allow me the flexibility that I enjoyed in this business, to cruise and write for cruisemates.

Along the way, while in the hotel business, I also owned, and later sold a restaurant. So.. I'm used to being pretty busy. It's not likely that I could simply retire.

My dh is the same way, Kuki. He would very much like to hang out his own shingle and practice the kind of law HE wants, not what his big firm tells him, but as for 100% retirement? Nobody who knows him can see it happening.

Good luck with your "next" big adventure.

Sad, indeed. It's always unfortunate when a place such as yours closes. Calgary's cultural fabric will no doubt be several fibers short as a result.

On the otherhand, though, I'm really excited for you. To be on the cusp of new and interesting ventures - that's very exciting.

Best of luck to you Kuki!!
