I haven't been around the boards the last few days because we'd been very busy organizing a "fairwell party" (charity fundraiser) for my bar. We're having another one next week (not a fundraiser) for all our regular customers.
The fundraiser was a GREAT party set up to honor, my father, the Premier of our Province (like a US governor) (who had been a long time family friend and bar patron), and George Stephenson (who used to entertain in the bar every Friday, at lunch, for the past 20 years). Amazingly we raised well over $30,000 for the women's shelter society... which was TERRIFIC! Here's a pic of today's front page of the Calgary Sun Newpaper about the event.
The BAD thing was, just the night before we learned my father's only remaining brother, in Denver, had passed away They were still very close, so my father's attendance at yesterdays shindig was clouded by his brother's passing. It helped alot that my sister, and all his grandkids, and great grand child came in for the party.
And thankfully the attention he got at the party from all the well wishers, helped ease the pain, and put a sparkle in his eye, at least for a few hours.

Your emotions must be in turmoil with the sale of your business and now your Uncle's passing away. I remember seeing a picture you posted some time ago that was taken of your father and brother at a wedding in the states.
My sincerest condolences to your father and you and your family at this sad time.
Congrats on the success of your fundraiser Kuki, that's quite a welcome donation to the shelter I'm sure! I also saw Ralph in one of your T-shirts on the CTV news last night!
Sorry to hear about your uncle. Please accept our condolences to your dad and all the rest of the family.
First of all please accept our deepest condolences.
The same photo of Premier "King" Ralph Klein appeared on the National news section of our local newspaper. Exerts form our local newspaper's reporting of the event:
'King Ralph' was in the St. Louis tavern when he decided on political career'.
"The career of one of Canada's longest-serving premiers ended as it began - shrouded in deep fryer and cigarette haze, then toasted with countless pitchers of draft beer".
"What I found about the St. Louis is that they were regular folks doing regular things and trying to make their way in life" he told the crowd.
It's my bet that no other Canadian tavern closure was ever done so gradiosely.
Best of luck in your new career whatever that will be.
Kuki,
I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle. My condolences to you and your family. You sure have been on a rollercoaster ride lately. My heart goes out to your dad and all of you.
Kuki: I'm sure you are going through a very bittersweet time with the closing of the bar/hotel. And now with your Uncle's passing.....I'm so sorry. Please extend our condolenses to your family. Take care.

Kuki, you and your family are in my thoughts. I know you have been so busy preparing for the farewell fund raiser. It sounds like it was a huge success.

Kuki - my deepest sympathy on the passing of your uncle. I know this must be a bittersweet time for you. But, I loved the article about the fundraiser at your hotel!
My sister went to Denver yesterday, with my father, to attend the funeral. I just got back from picking them up at the airport. Tomorrow it's back to the airport with my sister to send her home to Arizona.
Hopefully she'll get out, as there's a heavy snow fall warning tonight for Calgary... plus we're well below zero temps.
It certainly sounds like you are running a gammit of emotions. I extend my condolances, congratulations and wishing for safe travel and a speedy recovery for your dw.
How great that you raised so much money and how horribly sad about your uncle.
Thoughts and prayers to you and you family, Kuki.
