Default Renaissance's "R" Ships...

Everybody,

With today's announcement from Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. that MV Blue Moon will join the "Celebrity Expeditions" fleet in the fall of 2008, it appears that all eight vessels of the R1 class built for now defunct Renaissance Cruises in the late 1990's will be operating for cruise lines marketed primarily in North America by the end of 2007. Here's the complete list.

>> The vessel built as MV R1 now operates as MV Regatta for Oceana Cruises.

>> The vessel built as MV R2 now operates as MV Insigia for Oceana Cruises.

>> The vessel built as MV R3 now operates as MV Pacific Princess for Princess Cruises.

>> The vessel built as MV R4 now operates as MV Tahitian Princess for Princess Cruises.

>> The vessel built as MV R5 now operates as MV Nautica for Oceana Cruises.

>> The vessel built as MV R6 now operates as MV Blue Dream for Pullmantur, but will become MV Celebrity Journey for Celebrity Cruises in the spring of 2007.

>> The vessel built as MV R7 now operates as MV Blue Moon for Pullmantur, but will become MV Celebrity Quest for Celebrity Cruises in the fall of 2007.

>> The vessel built as MV R8 now operates as MV Minerva II for Sean Hellenic Cruises, but will become MV Royal Princess for Princess Cruises in the spring of 2007.

It appears that Celebrity Cruises will make the most extensive modifications of these vessels to date by reconfiguring forty-eight balcony cabins on the aft half of Deck 8 into 32 small suites, each of which will be 50% larger than a standard cabin on both vessels that Celebrity will receive from Pullmantur next year.

Norm.

So what happens to Pacific Princess (R-three) when Pacific Princess (R-eight)) comes on line?

Was just on the Insignia and she's gorgeous. What a treat to be on a small ship again. I hope Celebrity and Princess do as classy a job of fitting the girls out as Oceania did.

Oops, my typo. MV Minerva II will become MV Royal Princess. I corrected it in the original. Good catch!
