Default I about had a coniption fit:(

Bruce got a call forward to his cell, while I was on my phone, canceling papers etc...Who was on the phone? American Airlines, canceling our flight for tomorrow!

He had them on hold, I hung up quickly, and took the call ...It seems they pulled our plane from service, and they were scrambling to find substitutes for all the passengers..Imagine doing that this time of year!!

I was waiting for the worst possible news...they would get me to Miami on Saturday or fly me through to Miami, via Dallas or whatever.....

Well, for me it was not what I wanted to hear, no nonstop, but, the flight will leave Boston, at 8:15 arrive RR airport in DC, at 10:40, and arrive Miami at 1:10, not terrible, for a last minute switch...PHEWWW...OY!

We're having a "coniption" fit today too. The day started out with quite the snowstorm, and we're worried it will last till Friday when we're supposed to fly out of here! It's almost stopped now, and I hope that's it until we get back!!

EGADS!!!!!!! They shouldn't ought to be doing that kind of stuff to you Trip or any of our other cruisers!!! I'm glad you were able to get a flight down here. The weather has cooled off a bit today, but it will gradually warm up again. Have a safe flight.

Kuki

"One" might spell it that way, but it's actually "conniption." But we won't quibble.

Me, I'm glad American cancelled Trip's trip and rerouted her. That's because I know they didn't do it because they wanted to, but because they had to. Far better to be rerouted than to have an airline push the safety envelope in any way. At this time of year, when so many infrequent flyers are in the air and planes are especially crowded, the airline people work very hard to get everybody where they're going safely and on time. It's not easy. They almost always succeed on the safety front, but sometimes this is at the cost of convenience. And when we think about it unemotionally, those are exactly the priorities we would want and expect.

So smile at the airline folks when you travel to your cruise, and wish them a happy holiday too. They're trying their best to do right by you.

Truth in advertising: written by an airline pilot's father.

Trip, I almost had a conniption fit "on your behalf!" Of course, we have Alan, with that quiet voice of reason, to explain why we should be glad. I'm thankful that you have a resolution.

I hope all those traveling get to Miami safely, from all 4-corners (well, make that 3-corners ).

I'm glad I get to tag along through the world of virtuality, since I can't be there in person.

Thanks everyone..what I meant, when I said ..."imagine them doing that"
was not for me, but for them! Imagine trying to move over 200 people to other flights, during this busy season....A nightmare for them. I consider myself lucky to get what I did....Since I am a white knuckle flier, going up and down more then once makes me more tense than usual...but I will deal....

Donna, I hope all goes well for you too.

I actually enjoy coming across words like this to see how they are spelled. I am "spelling challenged"... and of course too lazy to look things up, so I rely on the knowledge of the cruisemates universe.

I used to be a pretty good speller, but lately?????? Anyway, when I'm too tired to look up a word like conniption,,I just have a hissey fit,,,or one of those other fits that starts with "s".

Default I about Had a Conniption Fit

Thanks for the reminder. I went on AA and found that they had changed the flight no. yet again. Not a big deal, because everything else remained the same. But you can't check often enough or carefully enough. 'Course it isn't Thursday and they could change things again.

Dang it AR you beat me to it. I was "having kittens" waiting to get to the bottom of this thread.........

Trip> "having Kittens" is slightly less severe than "conniptions". You do have to tell us how to spell "verklempt" though.....

Maybe we can create a severity chart for all these afflictions?

Cruise Cynic, do you think we could use a color system like the terror alert?

When I saw the title for Trip's thread, I thought she was going to tell us that someone stole her shoe collection....

(see there are worse things, I am glad you were able to get rerouted; hang in there.)

Trip: I bet that was a heart stopping moment for you. I've had American change my flights in the past also...but not the day before! Luckily for me, they were very willing to give me the flights I wanted after I refused the one's they offered. I cannot say anything bad about American...and I hope I can continue to feel that way. We are flying American on Friday to Miami.

Trip--

Since you're a white knuckle flyer who'll be changing planes at Washington DCA, I would suggest that you sit on the left side of the plane to Washington. That way, if the winds are right and you get to approach to the south landing on runway 19, you'll have a fine view of the Washington Monument, the Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial and the White House just before you land. Seeing beautiful downtown Washington might make you forget your nervousness.

And speaking of that, years ago when our son Matt began to fly for the airline, he couldn't wait to fly that approach (called the "river visual") into DCA, because we live near that flight pattern and can watch the planes shooting that approach all day long. He grew up watching them come down the river. So the first time he flew it piloting an airliner he told us that he was tempted to pop the mike and say "everybody on the right side of the plane wave to my parents!"

But he decided not to do it because he was afraid that any nervous flyers would be extra frightened that the pilot had parents who were still alive!

I love it when the poor lady is having a fit, and so many worry about her spelling. Trip, as you said, I to feel sorry for the airlines, who have to re-route everyone. I am glad you were able to get something else. That sure would be a long walk.

Have a great trip.
