To expand on Trip's earlier thread about charges for the second bag, I read in th L.A. Times today that Spirit Air and and British Aiways have indeed levied a $10 fee for checking a second bag. Transatlantic economy passengers can still check two pieces free of charge. A spokesperson in the travel industry said that they think that this is the beginning of a trend where the airlines will eventually charge for all bags.
I guess the airlines figure they can make more money on their airplane holds by using them more for air freight than handling people's bags. But I think that folks will just pony up the money. They've gotta take what they've gotta take.
