I think they need to hang nets all around the ship to protect the passengers from their own stupidity (and litigation). But then you get the morons who jump on purpose, because they see the nets, and sue because it actually hurt to land in the net.

It saddens me that they actually rescued these two, in order that they may someday (Sca-ry thought) procreate and spread their defective genes further into our collective genome..... It's time for good ol' Natural Selection to begin work on the human species.

Tonight I saw a little segment on t.v. wherein a woman was testifying to a congressional hearing regarding cruise line safety. She allegedly had been raped aboard a RCCL ship. If she was truly raped, then I feel very sorry for her and the person responsible should be dealt with to the fullest
On the other hand, I would surely have some questions to ask her.

But that being said, I sometimes wonder exactly what people think congress can or would do to improve cruise safety. Pass laws? We have more laws on the books now that one can imagine but yet right in the very back door of congress in and around Washington D.C. the crime rate is through the roof. That's a fine reflection on our country and its leadership.
And while I'm on my box, I would like to see the media put some focus on the crimes that are commited everyday against our children in this country. It's sickening to see and hear on a very regular basis where some innocent baby or small child has been killed or abused by some adult and in many cases, the parents. In my home city right now we have a 25 year old teacher in jail charged with killing her 1 month old baby boy. He had a broken leg, a damaged ear, a damaged eye and fractured skull. Today a 19 year old man was arrested for killing his 2 month old daughter. He confessed to police he hit the baby. In an adjoining county a couple are in jail for killing their 10 year old daughter. They had abused the child for several years and had been reported on different ocassions but nothing was done. Now the child is at least out of her misery. Another couple is in jail for leaving a 3 year old alone at home in a closet for the weekend while they attended a family reunion. He died.
It just irritates the hell out of me that we have so much going on in this country that people really should be up in arms about and should be brought to the fore by the media but what do we end up getting in front of a congressional hearing and top coverage on t.v.?? Something about an alleged rape on a ship and someone crying wolf because a couple dozen people out of many millions over a period of 4-5 years jumped or fell off a cruise ship and most of those were drunk.
In the time it's taken me to type this there has been more crimes committed ashore than on all the cruise lines in the past 25 years.
And we want congress to step in on the cruise business?? Gimme a break !!

Thanks, but help the kids-- let the cruise business alone.

Their ship is in port in Cozumel this morning. Do we want to guess if they got off the ship with a red embarrassed face, or with a tee shirt that says" I jumped and survived"

3-28-07: Update to Couple Overboard Incident
A video of the rescue of the two people who went overboard from the Grand Princess shown on the Today show this morning has revealed a few new possibilities based on the dialogue between the person, Laura Gilhouse, (whose husband shot the rescue video) and the Today Show host. Apparently, it was only an accident in the case of the woman, and it appears that she slipped, after putting herself in a precarious position, rather than jumped. The young couple; he 22, she 20, and not married to each other, were guests at a party when they decided to go out on the balcony together.

Gilhouse told the Today show that what she heard as "scuttlebutt" from other passengers was that as the couple was on the balcony others heard the girl scream, as if she were falling from the ship. Very soon afterwards they heard a commotion of sounds as if the young man had decided to jump in to probably try to rescue her.

The man was discovered with no clothes on, though he reportedly said he took them off in the water to increase his bouyancy. Very few details about the woman have been revealed at all. As the couple was rescued, shouts of joy could be heard from the passengers on the cruise ship. They were individually lifted into a ship's tender. Today Show Video

Wow, the woman's husband was there and that happened with a total stranger!?? :o Why do we not hear from the "others" in the party? Something does not add up. She still contends it was an accident? Sure, I agree it was but she put herself in that poosition.
