Galveston Web Cam and the Conquest
I checked the Galveston Web Cam this morning and noticed two things:
1) The Conquest is presenting her posterior side to the camera, which doesn't happen often
2) The Elissa is at the end of the dock, instead of along side. Wonder if they will be taking her out for a sail today. They don't sail her very often.
hmmmmmm

Usually the Elissa is backed in and tied up to the pier on the far side of that red building. I haven't noticed that they take her very often. This is information I found from the Elissa's web site:
"Does she sail? Yes! Unlike many museum ships, which are permanently moored, ELISSA actually sails on a regular basis. Her size and complexity make it expensive to take her out. Also, there are a lot of special preparations that have to be made in order for the U.S. Coast Guard to give her a green light for sailing. Since she’s so rare and unique, it takes qualified officers to command her - another expense. Finally, the people that make her go - the crew - are made up almost entirely of volunteers, like me, and it takes a huge effort to train them to sail her safely."

Elissa is the ship docked to the front.
I thought that was a term for one of the cruise decks or something.

I'm sorry. I forget that not everybody has Galveston just outside their backdoor.
The Elissa is a Barque Tall Ship and her hull was laid in 1877 and is now a mix of old and new.

Looks like the Elissa is pulling away from the pier!

I missed it!
I have the link up now, to hopefully catch the Conquest pulling out. What time does it leave, normally?

It's scheduled departure time is 4:00, but usually it is after 4:30 when it sails. 8)
I may have to ride down to Galveston and wave to all those lucky passengers starting their cruise!

The Elissa had been at the end of the dock since early last week.
