and Windows Defender
I installed Defender last, and kept the default settings. DO NOT DO THIS. The "quick scan" setting is not effective. I thought an initial full scan, followed by regular quick scans will keep the nasties out. Wrong.
I caught my PC trying to dial out on its own (not a good sign, even though I had just finished my weekly spyware scan) and did a full scan on all four programs....
Windows Defender came back with two Trojans, a dialer and a browser hi-jacker, on a unit the other programs claimed was clean and running normally. Set Defender to "full scan" at least weekly.
Also, if your PC is running slow, open up Task Manager, and see if anything you do not recognize is running. Do this WHEN IT IS SLOW. Be careful not to end any processes that are key to your PC's operation.
Just 1 month to go until the "Cruise Cynic Mystery Cruise" ... January 2008
cynic: there is a list available somewhere online for peeps to compare running processes to what is needed to run the pc, to easily pick out the nonessential proccesses and possibly the spyware, etc... I have a hard copy of the list but no scanner to scan it in and share it with you guys, it is a couple of pages long cause it explains the processes and what they do and the reasons for keeping or deleting them
