Default You Have To See This Amazing Video!

See if you can watch this video, without you jaw dropping and heart rate speeding up, like mine did. ......Imagine seeing under the ship, as the men in the copter did, and imagine the copter being able to stay up in the cyclone!

What a video. We had some waves like that back in 2001 on the old Holland Westerdam. The ship would go up about 10 to 15 ft then slam down. Lasted about 30 mins and many ppl got sick. Here is some info on the ship in the video

MV Olympia Explorer
Operator:Royal Olympic Cruises, Ltd.
Year Built / Last Refurbished: 2001/ 2001
Length / Tonnage: 590 / 24,500
Number of Cabins / Passengers: 400 / 800

She is just a little shorter but heavier than our first cruise in 1982 on the Azure Seas. She started the whole thing for us.
Tonnage : 21,486
Length : 604 ft
Width : 78ft
Decks : 9
Speed : 20 knots

The ship was unable to maneuver in those conditions because of engine problems which is why the helicopter was there monitoring the ship. But just imagine how well that ship was built if it survived that unscathed.

Amazing video! I've never seen anything quite like that before!

It's too bad the ship wasn't able to make way, as that would have reduced the pounding it took.

This Voyager isn't Royal Olympic any longer, as that line is now defunct. But I am curious as to which cruise line owns it now.

Interestingly, this is the ship used in the filming of the movie "Boat Trip."

The ship is now owned by V-Ships Group and was rechristened as "Grand Voyager" but is known as "Voyager". I hope no one mistakes it with Royal Caribbean's, Voyager of the Seas or Regent Seven Seas Voyager.

The title of the video is definitely put by someone who doesn't know much about ships. Even though the Grand Voyager is a fast ship with a cruising speed of 27 knots. Royal Olympic had some great itineraries because of the speed of these ships.

Just duct tape yourself to the bed and ride it out.

Take care,
Mike

Venice, did you knew it could fly but you didn't mean it literally though... did you?

I think when pushed it could go up to 29 to 30 knots which made it seem like it was skipping over the waves when we were on it...It was fun to pass the bigger ships on the way to the next port

I got seasick just watching that video, I can't imagine having been on that ship at the time!
Mike, now I know why everyone always recommends taking duct tape on a cruise!

I'm thinking: duct tape, a roll of bubble wrap, couple of buckets and water wings.

I got a little "woozy" watching that. My stomach did a flip flop....Honestly, how do you stay "put" when the ship is rocking and rolling like that. If you lay in bed you have to roll, if you sit in a chair, you would fall out. Do you just sit on the floor someplace and hold on............

put on your water wings, wrap your self up in bubble wrap; duct tape your self to the most secured object and place the buckets within reach.
