I saw a report earlier this morning about the running back Ricky Williams. The former University of Texas All-American and current Miami Dolphin has been fulfilling the terms of his suspension for violating the league's substance abuse clause. Seems Mr. Williams had been smoking a bit of marijuana and was tested soon afterwards and the test was positive. Now, Williams is wanting to return to football when his suspension is up later this month. The funny part.... and I am serious when I write this and it is true.... His home city is... GRASS CITY, Ca.
Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Courage and perserverance have a magical talisman; before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into the air.
Pick your company wisely! Hang around people who are going to help you become all God created you to be.
I hope none of the teams feels the need to hire Mr. Williams. He had many chances to get his self clean, and failed many tests. He knew from High School that drugs should not be in his future. He decided it did not apply to him. I have students who look up to these players. If Ricky can do it, so can I. There are very few spots to fill in the NFL. I think those spots should be filled with drug free players.
Often times, people with a mental disorder will self-medicate with alcohol or illegal drugs. The fact that a person is living in a tent and trying to "find" themselves, although bizzare to us, seems rational to them. Using an illegal substance and choosing it over potential millions of dollars is not that bizzare to a person who is not able to think clearly.
No he should not play football. He should surround himself with people who care about him, and not his money.
