katlady, trivia lost a lot of its charm with the advent of google. I imagine you could get all of these answers in about two minutes of googling.

i think marc cheated. you mentioned non-googled guesses so it was in good faith or maybe he did know them all without googling. then he watches just as many movies as you do. whew.

Here is something you can't easily Google. connect John Wayne to Kevin Bacon in two movies. (hint you can use directors). Example:
Nicole Kidman was in "Eyes wide shut" with Tom Cruise he was in "a Few Good Men" with Kevin Bacon Two movies.
Good Luck.

Well whatever do you mean Kat? Southern Ladies would not be caught dead in a movie like that! Alive? Well, maybe!

Honestly, ET was my favorite on your list. I think I've seen it a dozen or more times. My grandchildren hate it because I make them watch it with me!

ET Phone Home! I even have a vinyl (imitation leather) ET with a red finger!

When I was a child I thought it was good. Of course I loved Haley Mills. I think the first movie I saw her in was Pollyanna.

"The Truth About Spring" has her living on a boat. I recall a tomboyish lifestyle where she wore jeans or pants all the time. The magical moment was when she put a dress on. That is about all I can remember.

Let me Google it.

Okay here is the synopsis

Quote:
Tommy Tyler a lazy Caribbean sailor and his tom-boy daughter, Spring are out to search for a buried treasure. Tommy brings aboard William Ashton, a young lawyer to help with the search. Ashton turns out to be handy when they encounter dangerous rivals. Tommy also tries to play match maker between Ashton and Spring-a difficult task indeed.
I see it was released in 1964. I would have been 8 years old and totally in awe of the 18 year old Haley Mills!

Pollyanna synopsis

Quote:
A little girl comes to a town that is embattled by feuds and intimidated by her aunt. By the time she must leave, she has transformed the community with her indominatable will to see the good side of even the worst situations and bring it out for the betterment of all. Written by Kenneth Chisholm {kchishol@execulink.com}

Even after having lived the hardscrabble life of a missionary's daughter all her life and seen the loss of both parents, young Pollyanna Whittier refuses to be depressed. Instead, she must be glad about anything she can think of, and it's paid off big time. Now, however, she must go to live with her cold, spinsterish aunt in a town inhibited by embittered, unfriendly souls. Can she use her glad game to win over everyone and transform the town? Written by Anonymous
I would have been four when this movie was released. I wonder how I remember this movie from so long ago?

OK, without googling, try this. . .

She dubbed Deborah Kerr's singing voice in The King & I, she dubbed Audrey Hepburn's singing voice in My Fair Lady, and she played a nun in The Sound of Music.

She's got one of the prettiest singing voices in all of film, but she almost never got credit because she was usually dubbing somebody else.

Last I heard, she's still alive and well.

AR, I think it's Marilyn something-or-other (Horn?). She was on "The Prairie Home Companion" as a guest a couple of years back complaining about not getting credit.

Judy,

Nope, I googled it. However, the lady in question did receive billing for her role in the movie, "I Do, I Think".

AR,
I'm thinking it's Marni Nixon who did the singing for Deborah Kerr....
Please Melody and Katlady...it's HaYley Mills not Haley....
sorry, we fight this battle since our daughters name is Hayley as well.

Marni Nixon is right. One of the "unsung" singing heroes.

Good Luck.
I will put this one to bed. John wayne was in "the Shootist" with Ron Howard who directed Kevin Bacon in "Apollo 13".
A/R I saw a show about "My Fair Lady" it said that Audrey Hepburn wanted to do her own singing and practiced a lot but the movie people refused to let her and that is why Marni Nixon was used. They showed some scenes with Audrey Hepburn singing and she was pretty good. A/R was Marni Nixon also the voice of Natlie Wood in 'West Side Story"?
Angela sorry I misspelled Hayley Mills I'm just a bad speller.

No problem about the spelling Katlady. I was so sure I was going to have a boy that I made a deal with my husband that if the baby was a boy I would choose the name and if it was a girl, he would choose the name and that's how we got Hayley. Dave was a big fan of her movies when he was a kid. The poor kid will be spelling her name the rest of her life! (She's 20 now)
This was a fun thread, thanks,
Angela Z.
