Default Returning from Hawaii...

We're back from our NCL Pride of Aloha cruise. We had diminished expectations brfore the cruise. We just had our first cruise on which we were glad to disembark. That is the sad part.

Here is a brief report card. We will post a review soon:

A............. Embarkation
B............. Public Areas
F.............. Cabin (function and cleanliness)
B.............. Lounge (service and value)
D- ............ Food Buffet
D- ............ Food Dining Room
C- ........... Three upscale eateries (Asian restaurant gets a B)
D............. Entertainment
F.............. Cabin Steward
F.............. Overall Service
F.............. Customer Relations
A............. Itinerary (Hawaii is always an A)
A............. Tendering
A............. Weather (Wow!)

Our biggest disappointment was our mostly stewardless cabin. We had a 30 inch streak of blood on the walls. The thermostat had no knob which made the A.C. impossible to operate until it was fixed 11/2 days later.
Our couch was 1/2 covered with huge red wine stains that had never been cleaned. The rug had a 3 foot diameter red wine stain that was untouched. There was a half used can of snuff in the corner on the floor. These items were attempted to be cleaned on the fifth day. The fitted sheet had "suspicious" brown stains. There were pubic hairs (not ours) on the toilet. The carpet was sloppy wet down the entire entry hall, making it impossible to get to the bathroom without soaking wet feet. The drawers did not open or close. We could not get a queen sized comforter for five of the seven days. We were given two twin comforters which did not work well on a queen bed with no top sheet. Our steward left the ship on the third day and after that our assigned cabin steward was almost not present. We had to make our own bed many times because no cabin steward was available.

Thank goodness we were in port most of the time. We would not have enjoyed our spring vacation had we had multiple days at sea. Some people might say we are complainers but honestly I am choosing my words carefully. This ship should not be chosen by anyone wanting a positive cruise experience.

WOW! I'm so sorry that you had such a bad experience on the ship! I'm glad you have had other cruises to compare this one to. If not, this cruise would have been your first and last one, I would dare say!

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Courage and perserverance have a magical talisman; before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into the air.

Pick your company wisely! Hang around people who are going to help you become all God created you to be.

Sounds like quite the disaster. Unfortunately NCL's Hawaii division, NCL America is struggling quite a bit, mostly because they are required to have American citizens as crew. Somewhat sadly, the American staff simply aren't willing to work as hard as those mulitnational crews that other cruise lines, and NCL's other division, do.
From what I understand these NCL America ships have a huge turnover of staff as well, and staff leaving mid-cruise is not unusual.

Plus.. for some reason, the Pride of Aloha consistently draws the worst reviews of the three Hawaii ships.

I sailed the inaugural of the Pride of Hawaii, and she was as nice a ship as any I've sailed. I'd sure be unhappy to hear that the U.S. crew weren't keeping her in tip top shape.

Yikes - I'm sorry to hear about the filth and poor condition of cleanliness and food. Makes me know what not to book.

Chuck Palm,

Sorry you had so many disappointing experiences. We sailed on her June 2006 and had a great cruise. Of course, that was last year. Everything you listed for our cruise would be all A's and B's.

Wow, what an experience! Did you report it to NCL? You deserve a refund of some sort. Even if the cruise seemed like "a deal," it seems to me you deserve some sort of refund for the filth andl ack of attention to the cabin.

Sorry to hear you had such a less-than-stellar experience. Sounds like I won't be cruising on that ship!

I'm very interested in reading your review, not only for your critique of the ship, but your thoughts on Hawaii and your tours.

Welcome home,

Yup yup...my sister-in-law just returned from NCL cruise...was very disappointed with the service.

I think Kuki's right with his observations. I read the same compaint about NCL Hawaiian cruise in last years Budget Travel's letter section...we tried to alert my sister-in-law and her husband..but they booked before we had an opportunity to give some input. They got such a good deal...they couldn't resist and booked right away. Now they wished they would have waited and perhaps paid a little more but had a better overall cruise experience.

I think we'll skip NCL Hawaiian cruise. Too bad.

Thank you very much for your review. My family and I want to eventually cruise Hawaii but if that's how the ships are going to be we might think twice. I especially will think twice, I'm a neat freak so if things aren't clean I would be miserable.
