Default I can't believe I fixed it

This morning we reported that Judy's laptop had expired. My son suggested looking for a replacement keyboard, he said they are easy to replace in a laptop.

I Googled "keyboard, laptop, replace," and after looking at a couple of sites selling keyboards for laptops I stumbled onto a blog that described our problem, down to the very keys that quit working.

It explained that HP laptop keyboards have a poorly designed connector. I t went on to show how to open it up and fix it.

Judy is disappointed that she doesn't get the new computer yet, that will happen when it really dies. She hopes it's soon.

Keith

I work with expensive and delicate electronic equipment everyday. It always surprises me how often the following works:

Emergency repair procedure # 1:
1- raise foot
2- kick object firmly
3- power up the object

Emergency Repair Procedure #2
- shake object repeatedly

Emergency Repair Procedure # 3
- make sure unit is plugged in
- make sure power switch is on

Golden Rule: Never under-estimate the power of a doofus to doofucate.

Keith:

Good job!!!

Isn't it great when you find the problem and fix it. It's how the "Geek Squad" makes their money. Now you need to charge Judy $200 parts and labor.

On second thought: The "Geek Squad" would have just replaced the whole keyboard and charged you $400 for a $75 keyboard.

Take care,
Mike

Judy,

In Keith's post, he provided you with the way to get a new computer. Something about the "demise" of the current one.

Surely, you can think of a way to expedite the premature "demise" of the current one, can't you?!

Judy:

Go to Frye's or Best Buy and buy a USB hard drive and copy the C drive to it before doing a "Pepsi Syndrome" on the old laptop.

You won't have the old applications but you'll have the data. If you want to get really clever buy or download a backup program such as Acronis and be really cool.

Take care,
Mike
