Default Keith, if you can fix yours...maybe you can fix mine!

Okay,

Laptop may have had a little sip of coke courtesy of one of the kids. Anyway....arrow up, down, left and right stick. So does the shift key on the right side of the keyboard.

Now here is the horrible part.

The cursor backs up to the beginning of what you are typing....while you are typing....so typing a sentence like Run! Jip! Run! might look like this....

!nuru!np !Jri

I got a can of air, but that didn't help. Any ideas?

Melody

Liquid and sugar are not a good combination. Actually the WORST COMBINATION you can have spilled on a PC. I suggest 99.7% Isopropyl alcohol. (Air is worthless) Pull the keys off the keyboard and try cleaning the holes with Q-tips. If that doesn't do it, then you'll have to get your screw drivers out and pull the skins off the laptop and pull the keyboard "pad" out and clean it. If that doesn't work then you may have a "Pepsi Syndrome" and need to replace the keyboard pad.

Look for one online from Newegg, or other vendor. The model number will be right on the old key "pad" so finding another won't be too hard. You already know the model of PC you have.

Take care,
Mike

Was that Caffeine Free or Regular? Sounds like it's a little shaky.

I Googled "keyboard, laptop, coke" and got a million references. The whole world is talking about coke spills. A guy in China even sells a keyboard prophylactic, made of thin plastic "doesn't affect the feel."

I only had to press the backside of the case at a certain spot to get her's going, at least temporarily. I didn't take it apart although it looks easy enough. You'll find replacement keyboards online for less than 50 bucks if cleaning doesn't work.

Great Guys!

Thanks! I'm going to try the alcohol and q-tips....then if that doesn't work...a new keyboard! Thanks a bunch. I hope you saved me a lot of grief from the IT guys at work.....they get sooooo crazy when you mess up your laptop!

Thanks again,
Melody

Melody:

It actually works better to take ALL of the keys off at one time. The standard. qwertyuiop......... are easy to remember but all the other keys can be hard to remember when you have to put them back.

Take a digital picture of the keyboard "before" you take off the keys. Then you know where they all go when you put them back.

Take care,
Mike

Mike,

I would have never thought of that until I had pulled them all off! Thanks for saving me a LOT of aggravation!

I think Mike's directions need to be posted as a "sticky" at the top of the HIH thread!

Yes, and you can tell the MacIntosh users quite easily from the filthy panes in their homes and offices. It's quite obvious that they don't do Windows....

Norm.
