A developer has bid $41 million to purchase the lease for the Queen Mary and surrounding grounds in Long Beach, CA with plans to refurbish her and develop the landing as a retail-entertainment complex.
It's the first bid to take over from Queen's Seaport Development, Inc., which filed for bankruptcy in 2005. So that's why Cruznut 2 (Laura) and I found so many things amiss on the Queen Mary.
The people in bankruptcy have another 58 years to go on their lease!
I have noticed that the Queen Mary has been featured on a few television programs of late. Most notably have been Entourage and Last Comic Standing, and I think The Apprentice shot an episode on board.
Perhaps this has something to do with the new owners, perhaps not. At least it's getting publicity again. I know I was happy to go through the ship but my wife was not overwhelmed and I can't blame her.
I am excited that she may be brought back to her old self. I just hope she isn't turned into "Queen Mary World" theme park. She is to dignified for that.

Judy, I am so glad that the Queen Mary may be rescued. Hopefully she can be restored to her former glory. As a hotel it was the worst I ever stayed on. I was so disapointed. My impression was that the whole village there was doomed. Only coming to life when there was a ship sailing. I do not see how the businesses around there can survive on one day a week of business.
