Yep, Vista is where it's at if. . .

1. You want a program so full of bugs you'll need an exterminator

2. You're willing to buy updated versions of most of your old software because Vista won't run your older (but perfectly good) versions.

Stick with XP for at least a year until they at least begin to fix Vista, and then be prepared to spend the extra money for any of your programs that won't run under it. All my computer geek friends are so frustrated with Vista that they don't even want to hear about any problems with the new computers that run it.

Actually I have not upgraded for that very reason, and have not plans to in the near future.

AR,

Interestingly, your description of Vista is exactly that of XP when it was introduced. After several years, XP finally became a quality operating system.

Besides all the bug and upgrade issues, Vista is an absolute resource hog. The system requirements are a 2-gig processor, and 1 gig of ram, just to operate the bloody thing!

I remember when DOS used to run on 64k of ram.........

I used to have a Commodore 64 "back in the day"....

what a quality machine that was......

You needed all the memory to print a dozen address labels.

I also remembering erasing a Duran Duran cassette (scotch tape over the tab hole) because I needed "extra data storage capacity".....

I have XP on my desktop. I just bought a laptop and it has Vista, so far so good. No problems there.

I have a vista machine but I bought it so I could play Halo 2 (PC) which is designed for vista only.

The sales man also warned me about possible hardware issues such as your old printer?

My machine did not come with any antivirus software but I did find that AVG free virus checker which I used with XP does work with vista so that is a good thing.

The first "service pack" is apparently due around sept. this year.

Vista works well so far and has good "Effects".
Mind you this machine has dual processors and 2 GIG of ram. Woo Hoo!

Cynic, I also, had a Commodore 64, what a workhorse it was in the day. Too bad you had to reload the DOS everytime though. Also having to keep the programs on discs were bothersome. I also had another Radio Shack computer where I had to write the programs myself and store them on a cassette tape and play the cassette to operate the computer. Oh, and I also did the keypunch stuff and wiring the sorters as well.
