Yes, my wife and I were on the cruise to nowhere.
We had booked a pre-cruise stay in London and when we boarded the motorcoach for the trip to Southampton we were told the ship was late getting into port so we would be taking a side trip to Windsor Castle. That was better than the people that drove or took the train to Southampton and ended up waiting in a hotel.
When were got to the port everyone had arrived at once, and it took us 2 hours to get through the lines and get on board. Once on board were were told of the engine problems and the captain said our departure would be delayed while they worked on the engines. The next morning we were awakened by the announcement that the engine couldn't be repaired and the cruise was canceled. We were allowed to stay on board until Monday while Princess arranged to get everyone back home. All drinks were free, we were told we would get a full refund, and 25% off on a future Princess cruise. I have received a credit for the cruise, but since I booked my own airfare I've had to submit receipts to get reimbursed. We'll see how long that takes.
For those of us traveling from the US (or Canada) it was a huge disappointment. I personally think the 25% discount Princess is giving us is a joke. They gave 30% to passengers in Sept. 2006 when when the Sea Princess cut short a 7 day cruise by 1 day due to Norovirus and passengers missed a stop in Lisbon. Royal Caribbean gave us 50% off when we missed a stop in St. Thomas due to being stranded in San Juan when a cargo ship ran aground at the mouth of the harbor. Celebrity Cruises just canceled a 7 day cruise due to engine problems and is giving everyone a full refund, plus a free cruise!
We've rebooked the cruise for October, but with NCL. I doubt I'd use Princess again.
The staff did do a good job of making arrangements to get us home, although US Air canceled out flight out of Boston. Not Princess' fault. I did notice a change in the dining room staff after the cruise was canceled. The first night they were very polite, friendly and helpful. The second night we happened to get the same table and they were a bit surly and rude. I guess I don't blame them, they were losing 2 weeks of tips.
The ship was nice, at least what we saw in 2 days. But I'm not at all happy with Princess.
