We are all in print! New book by Carnival's Bob Dickinson

If you recall about 9 months ago a travel writer asked us all to tell him how we make our cruise selections. He said he was writing a new book about cruising along with Carnival Corp President Bob Dickinson.

Well, many of our replies are written into the new book (which I just got a copy of). We are mentioned on page 216.

The book is called $elling the $ea. second edition. I don't see it listed at Amazon yet.

The version that is on Amazon is the "first edition" which is really an entirely different book. This new one is all new, just happens to be called "Selling the Sea - Second edition"

I have the been known as the person that can find anything on the internet and I don't want people to think I have changed so. Here is the Second edtion on Amazon. :D http://www.amazon.com/Selling-Sea-In...2031786&sr=1-2 I know this is right because I signed in and read page 216 and 217.

I went to Chapters this afternoon, found 3 copies of the book. I did not buy one because it was $47.95 CAD, and I refuse to pay that for a softcover book.
I did read pages 216-217 and recognized some of the quotes.

Would it be any sort of copyright violation if someone were to post some of the quotes from those particular pages?

After all, we are the ones who originated them!

Our creative souls here at CruiseMates are owned by one Paul Motter.....
(We sold out by posting here. Read the legal stuff.)

HOWEVER> There might be a bit of ambiguity as to ownership if you post exactly the same thing on more than one independant website. Perhaps another website owner can go to bat for you, especially if you posted the item there first.

I, for one, have stopped posting anything even remotely creative here for that very reason. I will likely stop coming by altogether soon if they tighten the restrictions further and fool around more with the already ambiguous TOS.

Cynic... think about it. If we didn't at least put up notice that we expect to acquire copyright for anything posted here we couldn't have message boards. This isn't true for just Cruisemates (or Paul Motter) 's terms of service) , it is true for all message boards. Otherwise any poster could come back at any time and say he wants payment for everything he ever posted, and how "creative" it is has nothing to do with it.

it isn't as if we have ever expoited anyone's most creative thoughts with our message boards and re-published them anywhere else and made money from them. That sounds a little more like Ross Klein (just a joke, sarcasm is an accepted form of artistic expresssion).

No slight intended Paul.... just a bit of reality. Of course you have to protect yourself.
