Default What's Your Definition Of An Upgrade?

What do consider an upgrade? Is it if you go up from one category to another or is if you go from an inside to an outside? Or from an outside to a balcony or from a balcony to mini-suite or a suite?

I personally don't consider I really received an upgrade unless I changed from a balcony to a suite or mini-suite or an outside to a balcony.

Give your definition?

Take care,
Mike

Default upgrade

IMO an upgrade is anything in cost more than you paid. But look at in another way. If the location is better or the facilities are improved then it is an UPGRADE.

An EXCELLENT QUESTION. Please alert the cruise media.

For me, an upgrade is anything that adds value.

Moving from exactly the same cabin located on deck 5 to one on deck 7 is not an upgrade, however much the additional altitude adds prestige in the eyes of my fellow passengers.

Inside to outside is a downgrade in my books, but that's just me.

I agree, going from one outside cabin to another out side cabin is not an up grade, inside to outside,or outside to balcony or suite
that is a real upgrade

To me an upgrade would be from Mrs. Kuki to Halle Berry.
(Good thing Mrs. Kuki is outta town )

Kuki, You're right about the "outta town" thing. Knowing Mrs. Kuki, she'd be puttin' knots on your bean!

I too consider anything I get, over and above what I paid for, an upgrade. We will occasionally get assigned an OV when we paid for an inside, but we almost always get moved up a deck, or two, or five, which is O.K., but no big deal

To me, an upgrade is to a larger cabin. For our upcoming cruise, we paid for a Category H (cheapest cabin) guarantee. We have been placed in a Cat E which is the exactly same size cabin, three categories and two decks higher; to me, this is not an upgrade.

Now, if I had received a Cat C which is a Penthouse cabin with 400 sq ft....I would have considered this an upgrade.

This is a hard one for me. When I finally convinced my dh to cruise for his first time, we were upgraded from an outside to a balcony! That's an upgrade.

But, I've also been (this time) upgraded from a lower outside cabin to what I consider a better outside.

For the most part, a good upgrade for me is from one category to another.
