Marc.....WOW !!! you and your wife are in for a treat 8) ...I am a smooth jazz type of guy, but the Gods were shining on you today because I happen to run into a friend of mine that is the long time base player at the Preservation Hall Jazz Band (world famous place and musician) and when I showed him the line up he was impressed and in fact had played some gigs with Nicki Parrott (who is an absolute talented bass player and a "stone cold fox" (his words not mine)
so ask your wife's permission to take a picture with her and e-mail it to me for my collection (you don't have to be in the picture by the way)
Whoever on Seven Seas put together this line up knows their jazz..in the musician lingo, your reputation is based on who you've played with and this group have been side musicians to some of the greatest in jazz
Bucky Pizzarelli is a world class guitarist (he's played with the Johnny Carson Band, Benny Goodman) and specializes in movie scores from the 1930's...I've seen him perform, he is "sweet" (that's a good thing)..Ken Peplowski played with the Tommy Dorsey Band (clarinet)...Chuck Redd (drums and vibraphone) is the transistion member of the group to bring the history of jazz across from the big bands to the bee-bop (he's played with Mel Torme and Dizzy Gilliepsie)...Nicki Parrott and Johnny Vargo (piano) played together quite alot (Nicki also sings)..Nicki has played with Les Paul (my alltime favorite traditional guitar player ) and Wycliffe Gordon
My friend the "straight ahead jazz expert", tells me that you are going to be treated to a virtual clinic about jazz and will probably gain alot of insight from musicians who played with the Jazz greats, he wanted to ask me to ask you if they need another guitar player to represent New Orleans traditional Dixie Jazz that can also play modern jazz
Wow and you'll get not only to hear their music but to meet them up close...
you are soooooo lucky my friend
