Default Venice - Need Jazz Help

Venice, my cruise next year just added a spotlight on jazz:

Quote:
Five of the world's leading jazz musicians take to the stage on Seven Seas Voyager in a series of performances that celebrate the intimate music of a sophisticated jazz club when we feature a Spotlight on Jazz. John "Bucky" Pizzarelli is one of the greatest jazz guitarists of all time; together with clarinetist Ken Peplowski (an artistic descendant of Benny Goodman), bassist Nicki Parrott, drummer Chuck Redd and pianist Johnny Varro, we have a quintet perfectly constructed to take us on an excursion through the history of jazz. The Spotlight is on classic jazz on this swinging sailing aboard Seven Seas Voyager!
Do you know anything about these musicians? I went on a big band sailing a few years back and had a great time; just wondering how this group will add to the cruise.

thanks,

Hi Marc; I'm sure Venice can give you more inside information than I can, however I listen to, and know all of these great musicians, and would love to sail this cruise with you. Bucky Pizzarelli is absolutely unbeliveable, as are the others, IMO. I'll be watching for Venice's post to see what he sez, but I'll bet he gives all of them a glowing review.
Later,

Ken

let me do some research for you and I'll get back by the end of the day..I did have the pleasure of seeing Bucky Pizzarelli at Saratoga Performing Arts many years ago and he is awesome..

You're in for a treat, classic jazz is awesome to listen to and the venue is perfect...there is an article in Jazz Magazine about this cruise so I'll see if I can find the link for you

Marc.....WOW !!! you and your wife are in for a treat 8) ...I am a smooth jazz type of guy, but the Gods were shining on you today because I happen to run into a friend of mine that is the long time base player at the Preservation Hall Jazz Band (world famous place and musician) and when I showed him the line up he was impressed and in fact had played some gigs with Nicki Parrott (who is an absolute talented bass player and a "stone cold fox" (his words not mine) so ask your wife's permission to take a picture with her and e-mail it to me for my collection (you don't have to be in the picture by the way)

Whoever on Seven Seas put together this line up knows their jazz..in the musician lingo, your reputation is based on who you've played with and this group have been side musicians to some of the greatest in jazz

Bucky Pizzarelli is a world class guitarist (he's played with the Johnny Carson Band, Benny Goodman) and specializes in movie scores from the 1930's...I've seen him perform, he is "sweet" (that's a good thing)..Ken Peplowski played with the Tommy Dorsey Band (clarinet)...Chuck Redd (drums and vibraphone) is the transistion member of the group to bring the history of jazz across from the big bands to the bee-bop (he's played with Mel Torme and Dizzy Gilliepsie)...Nicki Parrott and Johnny Vargo (piano) played together quite alot (Nicki also sings)..Nicki has played with Les Paul (my alltime favorite traditional guitar player ) and Wycliffe Gordon

My friend the "straight ahead jazz expert", tells me that you are going to be treated to a virtual clinic about jazz and will probably gain alot of insight from musicians who played with the Jazz greats, he wanted to ask me to ask you if they need another guitar player to represent New Orleans traditional Dixie Jazz that can also play modern jazz

Wow and you'll get not only to hear their music but to meet them up close...

you are soooooo lucky my friend

Ken and Venice, thanks for the info!!! This sounds great!

Too bad there are no sea days on this cruise; we will need to make time for all the events.

Again, thanks!
