Default Back from NCL's Pearl to Alaska

It seems like I've been gone forever. We returned home late last night. I have a real respect for all of the West Coasters (and others) that have to travel so far to board a ship. This was our first experience with NCL and "freestyle cruising". I was quite impressed with the service and quality of the food! The staff is probably the friendliest staff I have ever encountered onboard a ship! They were wonderful.
After seeing Alaska on a much smaller ship in June, this one doesn't come close for the "real Alaska experience". Had we not done American Safari in June, I probably would have been very happy with this one.
Freestyle was a very nice change of pace and I can see myself doing it again! I'll be posting more details on the NCL and the Alaska boards in the very near future.

I am glad you had such a good time. The free style of NCL is why we go this line now. It suits our needs and the needs of family and friends. We just love it. we are ending up going with a nice group on the new GEM this winter!

Welcome Home ML:

I'm glad you enjoyed the Alaska cruise. I bet it was a different experience than American Safari but it was sort of Apples and Oranges.

I'm also an advocate of Freestyle: It's different but, something I think is great for when you are doing your own thing and I love the variety.

Glad to have you back!!!!

Take care,
Mike

I'm glad to see that you enjoyed your experience on the Pearl, MaryLou. We had actually considered an Alaska cruise on that ship, but just never got around to it.

We sailed on the Pearl in February (9-day S. Carib.), and thought the ship and just about everything else (food, service, entertainment) were uniformly excellent. But then we have been NCL cruisers for several years now (including two on the Jewel), so we might be somewhat biased towards their FreeStyle Cruising concept. And we like the layout of their ships as well. We just wish that their cabins were a bit larger.

Welcome home, ML!

Welcome home ML,
So, we need details....how was the weather and what all did you do and see. Send me an e-mail when you are done unpacking....etc.

I had a wonderful week in upper Wis....amazing scenery, very close to being in Alaska.

The weather was excellent: chilly, but sunny. We were told that the prior week was just awful.....very rainy and cold. The only rain we saw was upon our return to Seattle on Sunday morning....but, it was just a drizzle. The flights home were very good.

Welcome home ML. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the ship. It's one of the ships we're considering for a CM group to Alaska in '08.

Kuki:
Pearl is a beautiful ship and the service was wonderful. We also really, really enjoyed the food. Having so many choices for dining was a very nice change of pace. On the downside, the entertainment was so-so and we really missed the promenade from RCCL. The itinerary was good for Alaska. We really enjoyed Glacier Bay.
