In my opinion, good thinking on behalf of the captain. He had his passengers lives in mind. Running it aground would not only prevent it from sinking, but would still allow water into certain shipboard systems that rely on it for cooling. If the passengers are enjoying breakfast while awaiting rescue, then they're OK. Ships can be replaced a lot easier than people.
