Default Heisman Trophy

Does anyone other than me think it has become an ESPN joke ?

What's interesting is that the clear Heisman winner wasn't even invited to New York.

They know who won it so why invite 3 guys and make the other two sit there in agony ? Seems to me since ESPN 'took it over' it has become quite watered down to say the least.
Plus the way they keep pushing for 'their' fav, sort of scews the vote don't you think ?

Pretty sure they bring 4. It should be McFadden, AGAIN, but it won't be, AGAIN.

I live in Florida, and am a Mizzou grad, but I think it ought to be McFadden or Brennan. I don't want to see it go to a sophomore or junior when there is a senior who is worthy. The underclassmen have another shot next year so I say award it to a senior.

Regards,
Thomas

Well, when every time the subject comes up on ESPN and they keep saying 'Oh Tebo is the greatest', Tebo does this', Tebo has done this', Tebo Tebo is the only name out of their moths - who do you think all those who vote are going to vote for when that name is all they hear regardless of what they have seen ?
They've done it several times over the years.

But alas, no one asked me and I don't have a vote.

Just too many put too much stock in the Heisman. Ain't like the old days.

Bobby,

Too much stock in the Heisman?

Remember Gino Torreta (sp?) from Miami? The Heisman Trophy winner who wasn't even drafted..............?!

The only choice for the Heisman this year was UO's Dennis Dixon. Just look at his injury, before and after.

The Heisman race has become a beauty contest -- they're not looking at the season-long picture.

It should have gone to a senior player. Tebow is a damn good QB but he has a couple of years ahead of him.

Melody..you are far to young to remember this but when Archie Griffith won the trophy as a junior (and then as a senior)at Ohio State, there was a huge stink, based upon it should only go to a senior

folks forget, but when OJ Simpson was a junior at USC, he had a season where he should have won the trophy, but again that senior myth was in play (he won in his senior year, well deserved by the way)

I think because there is a freshman eligibilty rule, plus most great players don't stay in school for 4 years, the awarding of the trophy thought process has changed to focus more on the season then the college career

I was about to ask what his chances of going pro now, after winning the award. I was watching the Colts game last night. The Ravens finally put their trophy winner in with 2 minutes to go in the game. This was his first start and he won it last year.

What's the good in having it, if you aren't going to play?

Tebow has publically stated his intentions to play four years of college football.

So is it just like a beauty pageant winner? Who is the most popular?

Wrong!!! That thinking is so 20th century! It deserves to go to the best player period be he a green frosh or senior or inbetween. Besides he could opt to go to the NFL, get a career ending injury in spring practice or walk in front of a moving bus. Then what?

In any event, the award is quite often the kiss of career death.

A player cannot enter the NFL draft until he is 3 years removed from high school. Maurice Clarrett challenged this rule in court and lost.

Yes and that move ruined Clarett's career. I think Mike Williams from USC tried the same move. He did get into the NFL though. And the Heisman should go to the Senior. Tebow has other chances. If memory serves me In O.J.'s junior year, there was a guy from UCLA named Gary Beaben who won the trophy.

Gary who????
Thank you for proving both the point that it should go to the best player regardless of class and that it is the kiss of career death in many cases. Just ask John Huarte who won and is just a footnote while some of his runners-up became legends.
